Many worried Truman couldn’t handle the office  1948 Election – Close race between Truman and Dewey. Truman wins offering a “Fair Deal” * National health insurance * Expanded Social Security * Higher minimum wage * Public Housing * Civil Rights legislation * Federal aid to education What’s wrong with the picture? They pre-printed the newspaper not expecting Truman to win.
