Arts – Mrs. Fulton We are starting Unit 4 this week, which will focus on non-fiction text and how to recognize and use the following details to understand the text better: Text Features – titles, subtitles, pictures, captions, charts, graphs, time lines, words in bold and italics, etc. Text Structure – chronological order, cause and effect, compare and contrast, etc., and the key words that signal these structures. Author’s Point of View Here are some questions to ask when you are reading with your child: 1.What can you learn from the pictures in the text? 2.How do the text features help you understand the text better? 3.How is this text organized? Why do you think it is organized this way? 4.What is the author’s point of view (opinion) of the topic they are writing about? How do you know? 5.What is your point of view (opinion) of the topic of the text? In Language Arts, we will be focusing on capitalization and punctuation.
