Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation Katy Green CEO Monday 22 nd April 2013

Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation a registered charity works across Leicestershire, Rutland, Leicester City encourages and enables private giving to local needs – and we also channel public funds to maintain/improve quality of life for all in our area.

Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation one of 58 Community Foundations in the UK – all working independently within county boundaries – to the same remit – current staff (4) and Board (volunteers) working together 4 years President: Dr Laurence Howard

How We Work Donors - local companies, individuals or business clubs set up their own personally named, tax-efficient, giving funds with the Foundation Like their own charitable foundation, only at a fraction of the cost/work. People give through the Foundation (not to us)

How are donations spent? Donors choose how and where they give – which area, which cause. We can match them with groups and causes which inspire them, or where they want to make a difference Or donors come to us with an idea, and we work to make it happen

How it Works We set you up a fund in your name or your company’s name, or whatever name you choose. The fund can be: A) an invested fund: the income is given out yearly B) a spend-down fund, given over the timescale you wish Or both. An invested fund can be matched £1 for every £2 We report back to you at least yearly, invite you events, can arrange for you to meet beneficiaries, manage publicity etc

Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation We are unique in that we -offer a flexible “donor service” model which enables any giving within charity law. -Are NOT single issue: work with donors and funders to support any genuine, local groups and causes… ….from the household names, to the tiny “hidden” groups which make a huge difference in their village or estate.

Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation We work in partnership with other charities, voluntary groups, business and social networks We avoid duplication and “join dots” wherever we can

The £1 for every £2 match offer The Community Foundation has won a Government award of almost £500,000 until 2015 to match local giving £1 to £2 – if donors invest the donation for local causes.

The £ for every £2 match offer A fund set up for £1000 becomes £1,500: £20,000 becomes £30,000 – and Gift Aid can be added on top. The donor still names the fund, adds donations as/when suits, chooses where the income goes.

The £1 for every £2 match offer If the £500k is not spent, it’ll go back to London…

How could you help? Please help us spread the word

1.Not enough people know there is £500k of central government money available to match for giving via the Community Foundation – if we don’t use it, we’ll lose it. 2. Dormant/inactive trusts: in most cases, we can match £1 to every £2, retain original intent, even work with existing trustees.
