7 National Forensic League (NFL) AIAA Partnership with The National Forensic League (NFL) AIAA is partnering with the policy debate division of The National Forensic League, the national governing body for debate and speech events in the United States. The policy debate division will debate: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or development of space beyond the Earth’s mesosphere. The debates began in September and conclude at the national championships in June 2012. This partnership offers the AIAA the opportunity to guide over 35,000 debaters for a year on the future of space policy and exploration doesn’t come around often – this is the second time in 50 years that the topic has been debated. AIAA feels that this is great opportunity to reach a different audience and ENGAGE our corporate and policy committees throughout the year. 7

8 NFL A few upcoming opportunities are identified below: Articles for publication on the following topics are needed (each article should be 2,000 words in length and written in a way that high school students and non-policy or technology experts could understand): Planetary defense: Comments on improving the system for spotting and/or deflecting near-Earth objects. Space-based solar power satellites: Ideas on addressing global warming and peak oil issues by building space-based solar satellites. Ballistic Missile Defense: Remarks on a space-tier in the U.S. missile defense system in order to protect the American people and/or allies from missile attack. Moon mining: Comments on reversing the Obama administration's decision to de-emphasize the Moon in NASA's exploration plans; advantages could be restoring U.S. leadership in space or gaining energy and other resources from mining the Moon.
