Israelites made a covenant with God to follow his laws and He would lead them to Canaan

Saul: defeated Israel’s enemies, but God was displeased with him

Created an empire and demanded tribute

Died before temple was built

Known for his proverbs
Also had heavy taxes and sent northern Israelite men to work in mines
Kingdom split into 2 upon his death:

18. The Fall of Israel
Religion forgotten by most, and prophets were sent to bring it back to them
722 BC: Assyrians conquered Israel and scattered the tribes
Fearing God’s anger, many Assyrians (aka Samaritans) began to follow the faith

19. The Fall of Judah 620 BC: Egypt conquered Judah,
605 BC: Chaldeans conquer Egypt and Judah -allowed to keep king
1st rebellion- Jews and Egyptians unite
597 BC: defeated by Nebuchadnezzar
Punished severely: 10,000 Jews forced to move to Babylon (The Babylonian Exile)
586 BC: another revolt in Jerusalem, also not successful
Temple destroyed and took thousands more to Babylon
