Set Priorities What is necessary? What is important for your health? What is important for success in school? What is important for your happiness? What is unique to your time here?

Treasure your Time Your time is very valuable! Be conscious of how you spend your time Don’t waste it doing something that isn’t important to you (unless you have the time to waste!) It’s okay to say no

Focus your Time Avoid interruptions – focus completely on the activity at hand – Turn off email notifications? – Turn off your phone? – Turn off wifi (if not needed)? Avoid multitasking Finish something before moving on

Avoid Procrastinating Work is easier right after class, when the material is fresh in your mind Start early, give yourself chances to get help if needed Mentally, feels better to have things done Give adequate time for big projects You will do a better job when it isn’t 3am the morning something is due

Schedule for Efficiency Know yourself – when are you most productive? Do your hardest tasks at your optimal time Do whatever you are dreading most first – it will make you happier to have it done! Study in intervals – everyone burns out

Use Class Time You have to be in class anyway, so make the most of your time in class Be completely present in class – avoid the temptations of your computer and phone THINK during class. Try to actively process the material as it is being presented, don’t save the hard thinking for home

Daily To Do Lists Give yourself specific tasks to accomplish each day Be realistic One option: create to-do lists for each day over the weekend, reevaluate each evening I use Remember The Milk, but there are lots of free online to do listsRemember The Milk Tasks in google calendar is another option

Make a plan! Plan out your weekly schedule – 7-9 hours of sleep each night – 2 hours of homework for each credit hour – Save time for friends and fun – Stick to your plan. Plan out your semester – When are things due? – When are exams? – Plan ahead for busy weeks – Keep track of deadlines

TIME MANAGEMENT NATE AND ERIC

TIPS -While studying, put all non-productive electronics away (cell phone). Answering texts every 5 minutes turns studying into many more hours than necessary. -Get food to go and eat while walking places. This saves time in the long run. -Limit napping during the day. Part of this is getting more sleep during the night so you aren’t drowsy during the day

TIPS CONT. -Have a general schedule during the day that will make the best use of your time. This eliminates time-wasting activities -It’s ok to say no to friends that want to go out. If you have work that needs to be done, hold off on going out until later in the night or later in the week until you get your work done. -Get important things done first. Prioritize. If this is done, even if you run out of time you will have your most important tasks completed.
