Mrs. Rickart’s Disclosure Statement Overview

In General… I view this class as a three-way partnership. A student cannot complete the requirements alone, a parent cannot support their child alone, and a teacher cannot facilitate learning alone. It takes each working together to provide a quality educational experience, and to monitor the earning of grade and credit.

It is my hope that every student will take advantage of all opportunities made available to them this year.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS To help guarantee success, I have certain expectations of myself, my students and their parents.

Myself – as teacher 1. PROVIDE meaningful and challenging lessons that honor individual styles of learning, 2. BE PREPARED for and ON TIME to class each day, 3. HELP students understand concepts, requirements and due dates, 4. ASSESS and DISCUSS completed assignments, 5. UPDATE Power School each week (some assignments may take up to 2 weeks to correct), 6. REMAIN OPEN to student, parent and administrative input, 7. ATTEND parent teacher conferences and RETURN parent calls/emails, and 8. CREATE and INSURE a safe, productive learning environment. 1. 7 Students 1. DO assignments, KNOW expectations, LEARN concepts, and THINK critically, 2. BE ON TIME to class, 3. BRING the necessary materials each day: PLANNER, blue/black pen, pencil, paper, reading materials, and any assignments due, 4. LEAVE all electronics (CD players, cell phones, games) turned off and out of sight, 5. OBTAIN the required ASSIGNMENTS, and UNDERSTAND how to complete them, 6. LISTEN to and FOLLOW directions, 7. TURN IN completed assignments at the time they are DUE, 8. MONITOR and MANAGE your grade so you get the results you want, 9. BE A RESPONSIBLE COURIER between teacher and parent, and 10. CONTRIBUTE positively to the classroom atmosphere. 1. DO assignments, KNOW expectations, LEARN concepts, and THINK critically, 2. BE ON TIME to class, 3. 8 Parents 1. MAKE English class requirements a PRIORITY in your home by: 2. ASSISTING your student TO BALANCE school, home and personal responsibilities, 3. CHECKING your student’s schedule daily to see if they have work due for this class, 4. RECHECKING to see if assignments have been completed, 5. ATTENDING parent/teacher conferences, or call/email if a problem or question arises, and 6. KNOWING your student’s current grade in this class. 1. 9 Classrooms of Excellence  No retakes on tests – there may be “Reflective Make-ups” (teacher discretion)  No late work – assignments need to be turned in on the due date. If there is an unavoidable circumstance that will make it so your assignment cannot be turned in on time, you must complete the following steps: A) Talk to your teacher about the circumstance, B) coordinate with your teacher the use of your “Oops Pass” (you get only one per quarter), C) turn the assignment in the next day with your “Oops Pass.”  Tardies will be minus participation points (amount determined by teacher).  All papers will be labeled with the following heading in the upper right hand corner of the paper: First and Last Name, Date, Class Period, and Name of Assignment. Point deductions will be determined by teacher.  Planners will be checked randomly twice a month for the following: no mutilation and daily usage. Points will be determined by teacher.  Hall Passes will not be given unless the student presents his or her planner to the teacher with the hall pass portion completely filled out.  Quality work must be turned in. Quality work means that assignments are neatly written on standard sized paper, clean and free of stray marks or doodles, no spiral edges, and no dirty or wrinkled papers. Point deductions will be determined by teacher.  If you turn in a poor quality paper, you will get it back and must use an “Oops Pass” to fix it.

Classroom Policies

Plan A Follow these policies as written, Focus on the teacher, Ask questions for clarification, Follow the directions Honor due dates, Turn in all assignments on time, Use Oops Passes appropriately, as specified.

Plan B …there is no plan b.

Tardies o“ON TIME” means being in your assigned seat by the time the bell finishes ringing. oTardies are minus 5 points, but can be made up before or after school. oIF I AM LATE TO CLASS all other tardies are null and void. (FYI…I’m rarely late)

Late Work  Late work: Students have one “Oops Pass” per quarter which allows an extension of 1 day. Students must see me prior to the beginning of class, to discuss the reason extra time is needed. Without this procedure, late assignments will not be accepted (and I’ll be sad). I keep the “Oops Pass,” and will expect the assignment the next day.  “Oops Passes” do not apply to some assignments.  LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU’RE HAVING PROBLEMS MEETING CLASS DEADLINES AHEAD OF TIME!!  Late work: Students have one “Oops Pass” per quarter which allows an extension of 1 day. 15 Getting work from an Absence ZStudents must obtain and complete the work within a week upon return to class. If a student is absent when an assignment is due, they must turn it in the day they return.

Hall Passes The planner must be signed for a three- minute hall pass. Please wait for a good time to leave, and have the planner filled out, ready to go. You must get and wear the orange vest while out of the classroom. Besides, it’s soooo attractive!!

Study Skills Points (Daily Points) Each student has a daily assignment to be on time, prepared and well behaved. This assignment is worth five points per day. That adds up to 200 points per quarter! Tardies and poor behavior subtract points from this assignment. If a student is absent, they are excused from the points for that day.

Grades  GRADING PAPERS–Determining a student’s grade on any assignment will always be my responsibility. On occasion, student will view and correct each other’s assignments.  GRADES and CITIZENSHIP–Grades are determined on a percentage basis; citizenship on points (tardies and behavior). Please check the internet often to keep track of your progress.  GRADING PAPERS–Determining a student’s grade on any assignment will always be my responsibility. 20 Averting Disaster!! If you are having a problem completing work (or any other problem regarding my class), I would like to know BEFORE the problem becomes a crisis. Please keep me informed; that gives us all more options and solutions. Don’t forget about the “Oops Pass” option.

ATTENTION ALPS STUDENTS! F*B- is the “probation point” for this class. A letter will be sent home, and we’ll be chatting… …and Ms. Putnam will be hunting you down.
