2 Europe in Ruins When the Roman Empire fell, almost all trading came to an end. Bridges and roads fell into disrepair. There was no money, laws, or social order.

3 Europe in Ruins This chaos went on for many years. Most people spent their entire lives in tiny villages where they were born and knew nothing about the rest of the world 

4 Light at the end of the tunnel By 1100, feudalism made Europe safer. New tech. enabled people to produce more food and goods. Bridges and roads were repaired.

5 Hope Comes to Europe Laws were enforced. Trade increased, towns grew larger. Slowly, people began to use money again to buy goods.
