Civics – the study of citizens rights and duties Citizen – community members that owe loyalty to the government and are entitled to protections from it. Naturalization – a legal process to obtain citizenship Alien – a noncitizen Immigrant – a person who moves permanently to a new country

Deportation – to send an alien or immigrant back to his or her own country Democracy – a government where citizens hold the power to rule Consent – to give permission; to allow Representative – type of government where citizens choose a smaller group to govern them. Volunteerism – the practice of offering your time and services to others without payment.
