2 Q) Where do Content-Based Instruction, Teaching to Proficiency and Culture collide?  A) The newly designed AP World Language and Culture Exam.

3 Objectives: Using the Scoring Guidelines of each task, I propose to offer:  activity and pacing suggestions for teaching interpersonal writing/ speaking from level 1 through AP  activity and pacing suggestions for presentational writing/speaking from level 1 through AP  how to incorporate culture at each level as well. (Examples will be given in English and German.)

4 Write & Discuss Planning Questions  On the “whiteboard” provided, please write at least one question you have about planning your German/ World Language courses. Suggestion:  What do you hope to come away with today?

5 Form Conversation Groups 1. Are you a newbie or a veteran? 2. Newbies Together 3. Veterans Together 4. Now please form heterogenous groups based on years of teaching experience.

6 Fundamental Questions  Whether you are a first year teacher or veteran of many years, at the start of every school year, we ask ourselves: “What am I going to cover and in what order?”  Backwards Design  Three Modes of Communication: Interpretive Interpersonal Presentational (see Supporting Documents - ACTFL Performance Guidelines + ACTFL Description of Intermediate Mid Writing & Speaking)

7 Interpersonal Writing Scoring Guidelines: AP Exam  (see handout – Scoring Guidelines AP Exam 2013) Just looking at the 5 level, what attributes do we want to see in a successful END product?  Discuss Bullet Points  What activities do we need to plan in order for students to become proficient?
