SIMONE LEGNO BY CHRIS BOGUILLE

ABOUT BORN Born in Rome Italy Legno drew incessantly as a child. The boxes of chewed, broken and unsharpened pencils he adored as a kid were the beginnings of a passion for art that led to the eventual creation of tokidoki.Legno’s online portfolio which quickly grew into a globally distributed brand. WHAT HIS ART IS ABOUT Tokidoki means sometimes in Japanese. Legno, who has always had a deep love of Japan and fascination with world cultures, chose the word because he feels “everyone waits for moments that change one’s destiny, by chance or by meeting a new person”. Simone's special moment arrived when his designs drew the attention of entrepreneurs Pooneh Mohajer and Ivan Arnold, who spied the art on his personal website and convinced him to move to L.A. to start up a dynamic new partnership with them.

HIM AND HIS WORK

After dropping out of political science, Simone Legno studied at the European institute of design in Rome.Legno built tokidoki as a personal website not a company website, around 2001. Laterhe was approached due to his interesting design approach. When Legno was in school, he wanted his own website and was into Japanese art and culture. He would go to Japanese cultural institutes and all of his art works were inspired by books from lonely planet prints, Japanese art books and posters, everything was about Japan. So he wanted a Japanese word and really liked the word tokidoki. HOW HE BECAME AN ARTIST

REFLECTION Legno is a guy that I can say cared a lot about making his dreams a reality. He was really interested in Japanese art and stuck with what he loved to be successful. As I read about him I started to understand what his art work really means. His artwork means sometimes and sometimes times r hard but he over came them by persevering.
