The Orcas common and scientific name The Common name for the Orca is Killer whale or Orca The scientific name is Orcinus orca

There Description Orcas are black with white patches Different Orcas eat different things the Puget sound orcas eat salmon, Alaskan orcas eat sea lions, fish, squid, seals, penguins, dolphins, porpoises and large whales like the blue whale.

Description cont. The only reproduce 3-10 years. Females reach the mature mating age at 6-10 years males reach the mating age at about 10- 13 years of age. The reproduce sexually but never with the same male and never with an offspring. Orcas are endangered again.

The Orcas size A Full grown male weighs in at about 8,000- 12,000 pounds and can grow to 19-22 feet. A full grown female weighs about 3,000-8,000 pounds and can grow to 16-19 feet

The Orcas habitat Orcas live mostly in cold open waters where the hunting is better.

Interesting facts The largest male ever recorded was 9.8 m (32 ft.) and weighed 10,000 kg (22,000 lb.). The largest female recorded was 8.5 m (28 ft.) and weighed 7,500 kg (16,500 lb.). Orcas are mammals that feed on fish and other sea mammals. They have been known to eat other large whales and great white sharks sea mammals Female orcas, or cows, usually have 5 calves during their lifetime and usually live to be around 50.

More interesting facts Orcas can swim up to 30 mph Orca pods use different learned dialects to communicate. Each pod has its own set of sounds that distinguish them from other pods. Mother orcas have been recorded teaching their calves their pod dialect in a simpler form like a human mother teaches her child to speak.

Common and scientific name Common name- Sea Palm Scientific name -Postelsia palmaeformis

Description Brown, short, thick and round stipe (often to 30 cm tall) topped with dozens of blades that hang downwards, often to the rocky reef itself. This sea palm is an annual producing spores that germinate close to the parent plant. It uses photosynthesis to eat. From what I have read they are nether endangered or threatened

Size and habitat Sea palms are often 30cm tall but can be smaller. The Habitat of the sea palm is exposed rocky shores where it gets hit by the heavy surf. It is also very reef like.

Interesting facts The sea palm was known by the natives of California by the name of Kakgunu-chale before any Europeans entered the region. Postelsia are green in color as juveniles, and change to a golden brown as they age The blades, and less often, the stipes, of Postelsia are sometimes used in certain dishes, usually in California.
