1 Confidence Building Recap The Beginnings Confidence Under ComfortableOver Positive Thinking Positive Actions We created some simple TIPS e.g. Don’t worry about making mistakes Did you take any ACTIONS??

2 Recall The Simple Tips Activity  Activity (Alone or in Pairs) If you were asked to produce a self help guide to confidence building what SIMPLE tips might you suggest? A simple tip is something that you can do without anyone else being involved. For example: wear something you like

3 Possible Tips See (and use) hand-out  Do at least one thing you enjoy every day  Get involved in something  Set yourself a challenge  Do something you’ve been putting off  Don’t worry about making mistakes  Compliment yourself  Don’t compare yourself with others To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are.

4 Confidence Building And Body Language  What is body language?  Can you demonstrate: Positive body language? Negative body language?  How does this relate to your confidence?

5 Confidence Building And Positive Body Language  Helps you to make a good impression: Eye to eye contact Response to a greeting Seeming at ease Concentration (not distracted) Friendly / Communicative You may feel under confident BUT Do you have to look it?????

7 Confidence Building Moving Forward  Activity Can you think of some bigger (future building) things that you could do that would help you to build your confidence ? Try to think of 3 different possibilities

8 Confidence Building Bigger things that can help:  A job  A group  Volunteering  A course  Organising something  Learning a new skill  Involvement in sport  All have: Positives And Negatives

9 The Bigger Things ALL have positives and negatives  Activity In Pairs Take a card Identify as many POSITIVES Identify the NEGATIVES Are there any similarities????

10 Confidence Building Positives of getting a job?  In relation to the value of a work: Financial security Friendships Purpose Structure and routine Responsibility Experience (moving forward)  Similar to????

11 Confidence Building Negatives of getting a job?  Commitment (family v work)  Responsibility (too much)  Stress  Some individuals (maybe manager)  Trapped (not enjoying it)  Cliques (not well in)  Similar to??????

12 Overcoming Negatives Positive Things?  How might YOU deal with the negatives? These are the challenges to confidence  Activity: Think of a practical problem / challenge that you have faced and how you dealt with it. What did you do? What skills / attributes does it show?

13 About Yourself  Activity: Identify and jot down: 2 strengths that you know you have 2 skills that you know you have 2 weaknesses that you think you have A compliment to yourself

14 About Yourself  Do you find it difficult to: Give compliments? Accept compliments? Determine your skills? Determine your weaknesses?  Why? Maybe there is a poisoned parrot?

15 To Conclude Remember to:  Be active Nothing happens if you do nothing  Think about your strengths We all have something  Admit to your strengths  Think where you can get support People, classes…..
