3 TEAM Together Everyone Achieves More

4 We are a TEAM of strong READERS! 3 rd Graders are required to pass the 3 rd grade FCAT Reading test in order to be be be promoted to 4 th grade. This is a state mandate. 3rd graders are expected to read for 30+ minutes each night. They also have independent reading time each day at school. Each 3 rd grader has an A.R. Goal for each quarter. He/she will be able to attend a celebration at the end of each quarter if the goal is met.

5 3 rd Grade Reading Research 3 rd grade is a pivotal year for reading. 3 rd grade reading achievement is the best indicator for predicting future success in school. Research shows the more time spent reading, the higher reading achievement. AR points are indicators of time spent reading.

6 TEAMING up to support Reading in the classroom Teach and practice reading strategies Students focus on an individualized strategy in order to become better readers. Independent Reading Shared Reading Read Aloud Guided Reading

7 Read to Self WHY? The best way to become a better reader is to practice each day, with books you choose, on your just-right level. It soon becomes a habit.

8 Read To Someone WHY? Reading to someone allows for more time to practice strategies, help you work on fluency and expression, check for understanding and to hear your own voice. voice.

9 Word Work WHY? Correct spelling allows for more fluent writing, thus speeding up the ability to write and get thinking down on paper. This is an essential foundation for writers.

10 Writing Together Writers’ Workshop! Use Writers’ Craft Brainstorm topics Plan Draft Revise Edit Publish Monthly Lithia Writes assessments will track growth.

12 3 Big Ideas 1Develop understandings of multiplication and division and strategies for basic multiplication facts and related facts. 2.Develop an understanding of fractions and fraction equivalence. 3.Describe and analyze properties of two- dimensional shapes.

13 Scientific Method is taught and practiced all year throughout our Science Units. Science Fair parent information brochure will be sent home soon. Start thinking of topics. We are CHEERING for Science Fair Projects

14 Report Cards 3 rd Graders receive letter grades E’s in 1 st and 2 nd grade do not necessarily translate into A’s in third grade.

15 A = Excellent Demonstrates consistent application of concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors. B = Good Demonstrates a clear understanding of concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors. C = Satisfactory Is in the process of understanding concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors. N = Needs Improvement Needs additional time or more background experiences before an understanding of concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors can be attained. U = Unsatisfactory Has not yet demonstrated an understanding of concepts, ideas, objectives, or behaviors Academic Progress Codes

16 Communication Planners need to be read and signed nightly. Feel free to communicate with us through the planner. We check them each morning. Please sign and return tests/assessments. Sign and return Tuesday Folders each Wednesday. You may contact us via school email with any questions or concerns. NO TRANSPORTATION changes should be sent via email.

17 Morning Show begins at 7:50 A.M. You have done a wonderful job of getting the children into the classroom by or before 7:50 A.M. Morning Show begins at 7:50 A.M. Students need to unpack and sharpen pencils before the Morning Show. It gives the students a wonderful start to the day when they have time to come into class and get settled. This is also an excellent time to AR test.

18 Parent Conferences – October 4th Please sign up for a conference time before leaving your child’s classroom this evening. Confirmations and reminders will be sent.
