8 What is a verb?

9 What is a verb? A verb is a word that shows action in a sentence.
For example: All those words have action, which means they are all verbs.

10 “The dog barked the man”
Why use verbs? Just like your body has a heart, the sentence needs one and the verbs are the heart of the sentences. “The dog barked the man” The word barked is the verb in this sentence. Because as you can see it shows the action in this sentence.

11 Verbs video 1 Let’s see how many do you identify. Click on the camera for the video.

12 Did you know Verbs have a Best friend?

13 Verb’s best Friend Just like you have a Best Friend, verbs has a best friend too and its name is Time. Like Mickey Mouse and Pluto. They are always together and they help each other out. Verbs and time do everything together and they swore that they would always be together.

14 Why are they friends? Because Time can tell Verb when something is happening now, has happened or will happen in the future.

15 They are very good friends
For things happening now, we use the present simple and present continuous of a verb. For something that has already happened, we use the past simple and past participle of a verb. And for something that will happen later, we use the future simple and future continuous.

16 Verb’s video 2 Do you feel a little more confident about verbs? How many do you think you can identify in the following video? Click on the icon for the video.

17 Present Simple and Present Continuous:

18 Present simple: Present simple verbs are the easiest verbs you can use. They show the action in the sentence and they are happening now. They are in their original form and sometimes you only have to add an s at the end.

19 Present simple examples:
I want a coffee. I love animals. My friend Tony hates the vampire diaries show.

20 Because the action takes place over a period of time.
Present continuous: In this tense you must add ing at the end of the verb. Why? Because the action takes place over a period of time.

21 Present continuous example:
I am looking at Tyler. Caroline is cooking for us. The dog is barking at the mail man.

22 Past Simple and Past Participle:

23 Past simple: This are the ones that you add ed. Just like you added ing in the present participle you add ed to the end of the verb in the past simple.

24 Past simple examples: I walked home yesterday..
My dog barked at the mail man Ricky followed Alexandra home after school.

25 Past Participle: This tense needs the help of another friend called auxiliary verb. Verbs that show an action that already happened with the help of have and has.

26 Past participle examples:
I have walked. She has walked. Milly has studied for weeks. They have studied for weeks.

27 Future simple and future continuous.

28 Future simple: It shows an action that hasn’t occurred but will occur in the future. It has a best friend called “Will”. DO YOU WANT TO MEET WILL? or Yes No

29 Future Simple examples:
I will go to the concert tonight. Tams will assist with me to the concert. Rafael will meet my parents tonight. Jenna will present me her parents tonight.

30 What else do we need to know about verbs?

31 What else do we need to know about verbs?
Regular verbs change but not completely like the irregular verbs. As we showed you guys. So don’t worry, is not that hard.

32 Careful with the irregular verbs, my friend.

33 But you have to be careful:
Some verbs aren’t regular. When I say they are not regular I mean their past tense completely These verbs are called irregular verbs and they completely change their form when they change their tense.

34 Irregular verbs For Example:
Buy: The verb buy is an irregular verb and it’s in its present from. But if you are going to use it in it’s past form it will completely change form. Like this: Buy + Past tense = Bought

35 There are list of irregular verbs
These you might have to memorize them with time. Click in the little boy for the list. I must warn you, there are a lot of them.

36 Irregular verbs examples:
Elena met Damon before Stefan. Damon drank a bottle or bourbon last night. The house he chose was beautiful. Tyler left Caroline because he’s a coward.

37 Verb’s video 3 Wow! It has been amazing, do you feel even more confident than the last time? How many you can identify now? Click on the camera for the video

38 Meet will When we use the future tense I bet you noticed the little helper named “Will” If not, let me introduce it to you, Will… is an Auxiliary verb. And when we use the future tense, Will appear before the verb. Do you want to know why will has to be before the verb? or Yes No
