1 Informal Commands with Pronouns Positive informal commands: – if it is one syllable, attach it to the end Ponlo (put it)-->doesn’t get an accent because “pon” is one syllable – if it is more than one syllable, add an accent to the second to last vowel Mézclalo (mix it)-->accent goes on the second to last vowel Negative informal commands: – place it between no and the verb No lo bebas (don’t drink it)

2 Ángeles y Diablos Write a list of 5 commands on your own. If you are an ángel, your commands should be something good; if you are a diablo, they should be something bad. (But all should be positive commands) Ángel gives a command, Diablo says NOT to do it – (Sé bueno/a; No seas bueno/a) Diablo gives a command, Ángel says NOT to do it – (Sé malo/a; No seas malo/a) Go through your whole list

4 Positive commands: used when we want to tell a friend or someone we know well to do something ¡Come! – EAT! ¡Camina!- WALK! ¡Duerme!- SLEEP! What looks familiar about these endings?

5 1) Go to the tú form of the verb 2) Chop the ‘s’ (This is the same as the Ud./él/ella form of the verb) STATEMENT COMMAND (tú) caminas ¡Camina! Walk! (tú) comes ¡Come!Eat! (tú) duermes ¡Duerme! Sleep! To form positive commands:

6 Let’s work on positive commands… Open the window!… – Verb: abrir Put it in the tú form = tú abres Chop the –s = abre ¡Abre la ventana!

7 Speak now!... - Verb: hablar - Put hablar in the tú form= hablas - Chop the –s = habla ¡Habla ahora! Let’s work on positive commands…

8 Drink water!... - Verb: beber - Put beber in the tú form= bebes - Chop the –s = bebe ¡Bebe agua! Let’s work on positive commands…

9 Irregulars: (these don’t follow the steps) ser--> sé (be) ir--> ve (go) poner--> pon (put) hacer--> haz (do, make) salir--> sal (go out, leave) decir-->di (say, tell) tener--> ten (have) venir--> ven (come)

10 Here are a couple ways to remember the irregulars: DI-VE HAZ SÉ-VEN-TEN PONies in her SALon. (Dive has seventeen ponies in her salon.) VEN DI-SAL HAZ TEN VE PON-SÉ (Ven Diesel has ten weapons.)

(tú) corres ¡No corras! Don’t run! (tú) duermes ¡No duermas! Don’t sleep! To form negative commands:

13 Don’t buy pizza!... - Verb: comprar - Put comprar in the yo form= compro - Chop the -o= compr - Switch the ending=compres ¡No compres la pizza! Let’s work on negative commands…

14 Don’t open the door!... - Verb: abrir - Put abrir in the yo form= abro - Chop the -o=abr - Switch the ending=abras ¡No abras la puerta! Let’s work on negative commands…

15 Don’t drink soda!... - Verb: beber - Put beber in the yo form= bebo - Chop the -o=beb - Switch the ending=bebas ¡No bebas los refrescos! Let’s work on negative commands…

16 Irregulars: (these don’t follow the steps) ser--> no seas (don’t be) ir--> no vayas (don’t go) dar--> no des (don’t give) estar--> no estés (don’t be) saber--> no sepas (don’t know)

17 Eat more fruit! ¡Come más frutas! Sleep 8 hours! ¡Duerme ocho horas! Te toca a ti…

18 Don’t run in the house! ¡No corras en casa! Don’t open the book! ¡No abras el libro! Te toca a ti…
