It assists them to demystify the practices and requirements they will confront in their first year. It provides students with a range of specific and identifiable capacities (skills and attitudes) that are essential for undergraduate study. The thematic content explores the relationships between the learner, the university's requirements, and the expectations students have about university study. Students are introduced to the traditions of university scholarship with particular emphasis given to the cultivation of a range of skills and attitudes necessary for academic success.

14. www.arts.monash.edu ATS1370 Knowledge and Context This unit complements the various disciplines in which students are enrolled. It explores different disciplinary approaches to knowledge in order to develop an appreciation of the importance and relationships between context and knowledge. Students will identify, compare, contrast and discuss different disciplinary approaches to knowledge and be familiar with the relationships between knowledge and context. This unit provides students with an appreciation of the roles and responsibilities that graduate professionals have in the wider community.

17. www.arts.monash.edu Expectations of DoTS Students A performance based pathway: –To gain a place in second year, you have to >pass 8 out of 8 subjects >for some courses students are expected to obtain at least a Credit (60%) average and will be supported to achieve this (remember 70% of students do successfully gain entry to Monash courses) Classes can be scheduled at any time Monday to Friday between 8 am and 6 pm: –you are expected to make your work commitments fit around this, not the other way around Typically you will be required to attend 13 + hours of classes, and undertake 26 hours of private study per week. Students who do not pass all 8 subjects will not normally be eligible for consideration for a place in a Monash degree. You cannot repeat failed units, or the course.

18. www.arts.monash.edu Important Information about DoTS Deferrable and you can take an intermission (leave of absence) Non repeatable Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) Based Limited places DoTS undertaken on one campus, can lead to a degree at any of the other Monash campuses At the conclusion of DoTS successful students apply through VTAC for entry into the 2 nd year of a degree at Monash or other institutions
