2 Year 11 and 12 Pathways Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) ▫for students wanting to go to University or TAFE Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) ▫for students wanting to go to TAFE or apprenticeships and Traineeships At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

3 UNIVERSITY ALSO TAFE OR WORK TAFE, APPRENTICESHIP, WORK ALSO UNIVERSITY BUT LONGER ROUTE

4 VCE Requirements Students must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 16 Units that must include: ▫3 Units of English Studies, including at least one Unit 3 and 4 ▫Three sequences of 3 & 4 studies other than English ▫90% attendance at school At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

5 VCE English Requirements Students must satisfactorily complete 3 units from English/ English Language/ EAL or Literature Students must complete a Unit 3 & 4 sequence in an English study within one year to be eligible for an ATAR score through VTAC. 7 VCE Mathematics Requirements Students do not have to undertake any Mathematics to complete VCE Check University and TAFE requirements for specific Mathematics requirements At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

8 VCE Mathematics Guidelines Student undertaking Mathematics Methods are required to undertake General Maths Advanced (or Specialist Maths) It is strongly recommended that students achieve the following mid year exam results and test averages for these subjects: ▫Maths Methods: at least 80% ▫General Maths: at least 60% Entry into Specialist Maths at Year 11 will be by recommendation only At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

10 VCE Science Guidelines Students wishing to undertake Chemistry in 2016 must have undertaken year 10 Chemistry in 2015 At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

11 VCE/VET Units Available The VCE Units and VET Programs to be offered at Copperfield for 2016 are outlined in the course counselling handbook Pathways to Success At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

12 Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Approx 50% of University Courses use the ATAR to select students for their courses ATAR is calculated using: ▫Units 3 & 4 English/EAL/English Language or Literature ATAR Study Score ▫Next best 3 Units 3 & 4 ATAR Study Scores ▫10% of any 5 th and 6 th Unit 3 & 4 ATAR Study Scores At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

13 VET contribution to VCE Most VET programs provide 4 VCE units Scored Assessment VET programs: exam and assessments provide a scaled ATAR study score e.g. Hospitality Non-scored Assessment VET programs: may be counted as 5th or 6 th subject to provide a 10% increment of average 4 ATAR subject scores e.g. Automotive Studies See Brimbank Cluster VET Handbook At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

14 VCE Scaling VCAA provides each student with a Study Score from 0 to 50 VTAC scales the scores in each VCAA study to reflect the strength of competition among the students undertaking each study This Scaled Study Score is called the ATAR Subject Score VTAC uses the ATAR Subject Scores for each student to calculate their ATAR At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

15 Studying Units 3 & 4 in Year 11 Year 10 students undertaking a VCE subject this year require 70% for the mid year exam to undertake a Unit 3 & 4 subject in that study in Year 11 Year 10 students seeking to undertake a Unit 3 & 4 subject in 2016 without having completed Units 1 & 2 in 2015 require endorsements from both the relevant 2015 Year 10 teacher and their Team Leader. 16 Studying Units 3 & 4 in Year 11 Unit 3 & 4 subjects that can be studied without completing Units 1 & 2 include: ▫Business Management ▫History ▫IT Applications ▫Legal Studies ▫Psychology ▫Outdoor Education At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships

21 VCAL Community Projects Personal Development Strand (PDS) requires students to complete Community Projects. In Year 11, students work on projects related to community health-partnered with CHASE In Year 12, students work on complex community projects where a product is presented to an external partner-Western Health, Delbridge Must satisfactorily complete all PDS outcomes to gain VCAL certificate. 24 VET Programs not offered to VCE The following VET programs are delivered outside Tuesday timetabled VCE arrangements and are therefore only an option for VCAL students: ▫International Freight Forwarding ▫Plumbing- no 3-4 contribution At Copperfield College, we achieve when we are respectful, responsible and value relationships
