Basic Information Destination: Pluto Cost: $ 615,000,000 Type of Mission: Orbiter Time spent exploring Pluto: 10 years Instruments: Long distance camera, Spectrometer (using visible or infrared light), Basic Radar

Survey Survey question 1.Why would you want to explore Pluto? 2.What do you hope to learn about Pluto in you exploration? 3.How would you want to explore Pluto? 4.How do you think exploring this world will help us understand some other worlds in the Solar System better? Answer from survey 1.We want to explore this world because no spacecraft has ever been there (but the new horizons mission will arrive there in 2015.) 2.We hope to learn if Pluto can sustain life 3.We want to send robotics because it is unexplored. 4.We think exploring this world might help us gather information about worlds with the same temperature and characteristics.

Sunday Activities On Sunday we made our own planets including stars, suns and storms using photo shop editor. We learned how to create our own file. We made our planet by using Elliptical Marquee Tool to make circle, Gradient to color, opacity for stars, Lens Flare for suns, Liquefying for storms and clouds and twirls for rings. We worked very hard. Don’s Planet

Parker’s Planet

Peter’s Planet

Sergey’s Planet

Monday Activities On Monday we took our pictures for rotoscope. We cropped and resized our pictures www.picnik.comwww.picnik.com And we were introduced to our blog. We learned how to make ourselves a blog, and posting daily.

Tuesday Activities On Tuesday we worked on our mission (we chose to go to Pluto.) We also worked on our second Planets. We also kept working on our rotoscope picture and mission patches. Parker’s bad attempt at a rotoscope

Wednesday Activities http://mindflight.plymouth.edu/blog/space2009/2009 /07/23/video-skype-with- dr-vanhala/ http://mindflight.plymouth.edu/blog/space2009/2009 /07/23/video-skype-with- dr-vanhala/ On Wednesday we talked to Dr. Harri Vanhala. Dr. Vanhala who is a science researcher for the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education. We talked to him with our webcam (using Skype). He answered our questions about our missions, space and the planets.

Thursday Activities On Thursday we taped our skits in blue screen. We also did our egg drop. Everyone’s egg survived the first time, but a few groups didn’t survive the second time; in which we had to do without our balloons and/or parachutes. We also worked on our spaceship model.
