3 The Goal “A campus portal will help transform the UI website into a highly responsive and productive workplace for the entire university community of users, including students, faculty, administrative staff, prospective students, alumni, donors, partners, parents, and visitors. Each user will get targeted information and services when he or she needs them...anytime…anywhere”

4 What is our portal? Webster's defines a portal as… The university portal experience will be defined by: The sites ability to know you and your assigned roles, and the customization by the customer and/or organization.

9 Why this portal product? Works directly with Banner and Banner Self-service (VandalWeb). Has been adopted and refined by other Universities across the country. Supports the single sign-in model. Works with services currently used across campus.

10 Who is this for? What are ‘Roles’? myUidaho starts by assigning you to a role. –Staff –Faculty –Student Additional roles. –CLASS Student –Law Faculty –Retiree Staff MathematicsStudent

11 Who is this for? What are ‘Roles’? The roles that you’re assigned to will define the starting experience inside of myUIdaho. New roles can be added or removed as needed. Departments will be able to define the experience for their faculty, staff, and students based on roles.

13 Logging in. –http://my.uidaho.eduhttp://my.uidaho.edu –Uses your myUIdaho username and password. This is the same as what you have been using for email, blackboard, AD, etc…

14 Introducing myUIdaho The introduction bar. Who are you? Personal Settings. Email. Logout. Help.

15 Introducing myUIdaho Tabs Tabs are assigned to each user based on the roles they are members of. User can create custom tabs. Tabs can be reordered by the user.

16 Introducing myUIdaho Channels Added by roles. Added by user. Most can be moved. User can define custom channels.

17 Customization Remove and add channels. Move tabs into any order. Create new tabs. RSS feeds. –Most sites have RSS pages. Custom favorites.

19 Customization RSS – Really Simple Syndication –Most information sites provide built in RSS feed functionality.

21 What does this provide for my department. Reaching faculty, staff, and students through custom channels. Define the role for your department. Allows you to target information internally while maintaining external information.

22 Coming soon! (the future.) Phase II –Summer 2010 (tentative) –New portal version. –Students and Faculty functionality is brought online. Phase III –2011 (tentative) –Prospective students and alumni included. –Integration of 3 rd party application and services. Phase IV –Ongoing development and integration with current and future campus systems.
