2 January 2007 University of Victoria uSource.uvic.ca  was developed by the Portal Implementation Team of project Nova: http://www.uvic.ca/novahttp://www.uvic.ca/nova  designed as entry point for UVic’s web resources  will be integrated with the new Banner Student information system  will provide you with information based on your association with UVic

3 January 2007 University of Victoria How will uSource affect teaching staff?  UVic is in the process of implementing state-of- the-art information technology infrastructure °http://www.uvic.ca/novahttp://www.uvic.ca/nova  2008 is expected implementation for SCT Banner Student module  course tools such as Blackboard (formerly called WebCT) will be integrated  e-mail, announcements and communications tools will be integrated with student registration and employee data

4 January 2007 University of Victoria How will uSource assist administrative staff?  uSource will provide access to the accounting system (FAST)  once an integrated messaging strategy has been devised, calendaring and e-mail will be integrated  once the HR component is integrated, your T4s and payslips will become available via the web  forms will be accessible on-line, and filling them out on-line will initiate appropriate workflow

8 January 2007 University of Victoria What do you need to access uSource?  a web browser, correctly configured °cookies on °trusted site (pop-ups must not be blocked) °java enabled  text-only web browsers NOT supported  red text on login page? °read it, and follow links to browser testers °or phone helpdesk 7687

10 January 2007 University of Victoria Once logged in, look around  icons °groups, mail, calendar, FAST, help, logout & custom  tabs contain channels °targeted to your role at UVic  some content you may hide  none can be modified °only mySpace is truly yours

11 January 2007 University of Victoria When you’re finished  click the Logout Icon °it is essential that you always remember to log out  if you’re not at a secure workstation, °your session will time out °you’ll need to log in again  remember the URI °http://usource.uvic.cahttp://usource.uvic.ca

12 January 2007 University of Victoria Group Studio  allows University groups to share °discussions °files and data  groups are set up by request to usource@uvic.ca usource@uvic.ca  managed by a moderator

13 January 2007 University of Victoria How do we use Group Studio?  moderator (also called editor, manager, administrator) °assigns members °moderates discussion  can delete inappropriate items  can define topics  group members °read items posted °post items for others to read
