Plant Science Unit 2 Lesson 2: Plant Cells

Cell Membrane PSS.1.PP Selectively permeable- A plant cell allows certain things to come through the cell membrane i.e. water, while blocking other things from entering.

The Cell membrane PSS.HO.1

PSS.HO.2 Are located on both the interior surface and the exterior surface of the cell membrane, they are linked to lipids or other proteins. Extend through the cell membrane exposing it both to the outside and inside of the membrane. This allows the integral proteins to act as transport channels. Used to describe the cell membrane. Has a polar and nonpolar end. The polar end likes water and the nonpolar end hates water.

PSS.PP.1 Peripheral proteins- are located on both the interior surface and the exterior surface of the cell membrane, they are linked to lipids or other proteins. 2.Integral proteins- extend through the cell membrane exposing it both to the outside and inside of the membrane. This allows the integral proteins to act as transport channels. 3.Fluid mosaic model- Used to describe the cell membrane. 4.Phospholipids- has a polar and nonpolar end. The polar end likes water and the nonpolar end hates water.

Cell Organelles PSS.PP.2 “Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.” Marie Curie Marie Curie

PSS.1.BCName: _________________ Label the organelles of the cell below.

Major Organelles of the Plant Cell Cell Wall Cell Membrane Chloroplasts Endoplasmic Reticulum Mitochondria Nucleus Nuclear Membrane Vacuole Cytoplasm PSS.4.HO

Contains the DNA and manages most of the functions of the plant Cell membrane is selectively permeable in order to allow nutrients and other material in. Stores enzymes and waste products Contain chlorophyll and is the location where photosynthesis occurs. Transfers energy from organic compounds to ATP Surrounds the nucleus The region of the cell between the cell membrane and the nucleus Supports and protects the cell Where proteins are created from the DNA PSS.5.HO
