Spain, England, Portugal and France all sought to expand commercially and religiously (Christianity) Portugal and Prince Henry navigated the west Coast of Africa Slavery Cultures

7 Summary All European countries had difficulty populating their colonies. Life was hard and dangerous. Slavery solved their labor problems. France attempted to coexist with the Indians England and Spain took the natives’ land and destroyed their way of life. European expansion laid the foundation of modern Atlantic world as it destroyed native peoples and cultures in its wake.
