Nacogdoches Founded Gil Ybarbo Nacogdoches Leader of East Texans, did not want to go to San Antonio, Ripperda refused and did not allow them to settle on the Trinity River. Eventually, Ybarbo led settlers back to East Texas to settle Nacogdoches Nacogdoches was in the Piney woods, because they were to isolated, French settlers developed independent life style

Gutierrez-McGee Expedition Augustus Magee Samuel Kemper With Gutierrez, McGee formed the Republican Army of the North to help free Texas from Spain Wanted to establish a Republic: government in which voters choose people to represent them Republican Army captured Goliad in 1812 After McGee dies, Kemper takes over Kemper’s troop defeated Spanish troops at San Antonio

Disagreements and Defeats General Joaquin de Arrendondo Arrendondo was the leader of Spanish forces who defeated the Republican Army of the North near the Medina River Most of the Republican Army troops were killed in the battle of Medina
