Nacogdoches Founded Gil Ybarbo Nacogdoches Leader of East Texans, did not want to go to San Antonio, Ripperda refused and did not allow them to settle on the Trinity River. Eventually, Ybarbo led settlers back to East Texas to settle Nacogdoches Nacogdoches was in the Piney woods, because they were to isolated, French settlers developed independent life style
