Federal community represented by 8,514 employees in Island County. Offers donors a choice of over 2,700 local, national and international charities or federations.

9 u Eligibility Criteria – ALL CHARITIES q Human health and welfare q Tax exempt - 501(c)(3) q IRS 990 Form q Annual audits if received over $100,000 q Volunteer Board of Directors q Annual Reports to the Public (Federations ONLY)

10 CFC FACTS & KICK-OFF INFO HOW A CHARITY QUALIFIES FOR THE CFC u National Eligibility Criteria q Offers services in 15 or more states for 3 years, or several foreign countries q Apply directly to OPM Director

11 CFC FACTS & KICK-OFF INFO HOW A CHARITY QUALIFIES FOR THE CFC u Local Eligibility Criteria q Substantial presence in local or adjacent area n Office open at least 15 hours/week q OR substantial statewide presence n Offer services in at least 30% of state or to at least 30% of state population q Apply to CFC of Island County LFCC q Applications reviewed by LFCC committee

12 CFC FACTS & KICK-OFF INFO CFC RELATIONSHIP WITH UNITED WAY u Contracted to administer CFC. u Provides staff support for LFCC. u Develops literature and materials. u Receives and disburses funds. u Data processing and accounting. u Helps train federal volunteers.

16 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING UNIT COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES u Recruit enthusiastic team to help plan a well- organized and successful campaign. u Work closely with LFCC Co-Chairs and CFC Staff to establish goals and time frames. u Implement effective system for reporting results and maintaining accurate records.

17 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING UNIT COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES (cont.) u Oversee entire campaign q Follow up on all aspects of campaign. q Thank employees who contributed and members of the campaign team. u Finalize campaign and submit reports by November 8 th. u Evaluate campaign and make recommendations for next year.

18 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING KEY COMPONENTS FOR SUCCESS u OBTAIN EXECUTIVE & LABOR ENDORSEMENT q People follow their leaders – have command make an endorsement for the campaign. n CO’s letter in charity brochure. u ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYEE CAMPAIGN GOAL q Base on past, size, and giving potential. u DEVELOP A STRONG CAMPAIGN TEAM q Select Key Workers from all employee groups/divisions. u ENERGIZE AND PUBLICIZE YOUR CAMPAIGN q Emphasize donor education, publicity, and fun.

29 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING FEDERAL REGULATIONS 1.Setting specific dollar goals per person is not allowed. 2.Setting a 100 percent participation goal is prohibited. 3.Supervisors may not solicit employees. 4.Do not display or post a list of contributors or non- contributors. 5.Please refrain from advocating for one agency over another – allow the contributor to choose the agency which will receive his/her gift. 6.Coercion is expressly forbidden in the CFC.

30 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING REPORT THE RESULTS u Review the Pledge Cards q Return the pink copy to employee/donor q Ensure two (2) white copies and one (1) yellow copy are still intact. q Verify that:  Employee contribution is correctly calculated.  For payroll deduction, full SSN is provided on white copy, along with signature and date.

31 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING REPORT THE RESULTS (cont.) u Again, Review the Pledge Cards. u Arrange in alphabetic order and pledge type. u Prepare the Keyworker’s Report Envelope for return to the LFCC. q Ensure tallies are correct. q Provide a contact Name and Phone Number. u LFCC Chair will need to forward copies of pledge cards to PSD/payroll office. q Verify Civilian employees’ payroll office(s).

32 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING PLEDGE CARD DROPOFF u When & Where: q Convergence Zone q Tuesdays, October 8 thru November 5 q 1300-1400 n Please check email updates n www.cfcisland.org/campaign.htm u Don’t Drop and Run. u Cash will be counted in front of Co-Chairs or assigned assistant(s).

33 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING BASIC CAMPAIGN CHALLENGES TO AVOID 1. Start too late. 2. No timetable. 3. Not enough volunteers (Key Workers). 4. No campaign plan. 5. Lack of enthusiasm. 6. No publicity/visibility. 7. Not setting a reachable or optimistic goal. 8. Not using CFC materials to your advantage. 9. Lack of organized labor support. 10. Not using the Suggested Giving Guide correctly..

34 DEVELOPING YOUR CAMPAIGN PLAN & TRAINING BASIC CAMPAIGN CHALLENGES TO AVOID (cont.) 11. Lack of fun events and friendly competition. 12. Reliance on "in box" solicitation. 13. Not enough emphasis on payroll deduction. 14. Not making 100% personal contact. 15. Ineffective group solicitations. 16. Lack of training for Key Workers and volunteers. 17. Defeatist attitude. 18. Prolonged campaign. 19. Inability to "ask." 20. Failure to say "Thank You."
