21 Purcell Miller Tritton Sustainability objectives The goal of sustainable development is to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” World Commission on Environment & Development There are many, often contradictory, aspects to this challenge international business and travel being one example The carbon reduction targets being set by governments are long term targets because the ability to meet these in the short term is not available Our carbon governance targets as a business also need to be long term and incorporate our aspirations for growth in the business It is how we meet and minimise these contradictions that will define our success in being a sustainable business One way of doing this is to ensure that we continually improve and increase the level of sustainability of our architecture

22 Purcell Miller Tritton Maintaining our commitment to sustainability and environmental design Only architectural practice in the Sunday Times Best Green Business Awards Top 60 (2010) ISO 14001 accredited across all 13 offices Member of the Green Register of Construction Professionals Member of the UK Green Building Council Internal audit of every project using PIOS (Purcell Miller Tritton Index of Sustainability)
