SHARPEN THE SAW Have a balanced program for self-renewal in four areas: Physical, Social-Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. How?
PHYSICAL AREA Eating healthy, sleeping well, exercising and relaxing
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL AREA Feeling secure and safe, building relationships, repairing relationships, maintaining relationships, serving others, and laughter
MENTAL AREA Learning new skills, reading and writing
SPIRITUAL AREA Spending time in nature, expanding spiritual self through meditation, music, art, prayer or service, keeping a journal
SHARPEN THE SAW Divide into four groups (no more than six in each group) Physical Social Emotional Mental Spiritual
SHARPEN THE SAW Combine groups Physical and Mental Social Emotional and Spiritual
SHARPEN THE SAW Each group will be a team Teams will play charades against the other team
CHARADES Physical and Mental will play Charades Social Emotional and Spiritual will play Charades
CHARADES One team (Physical) will choose an activity representative of its group For example, Physical might choose baseball
CHARADES The other team (Mental) will choose one person to be the actor Team Physical will write the activity on a small piece of paper and give it to the actor in Team Mental.
CHARADES The actor in Team Mental will act out the activity without speaking or moving his/her lips. Team Mental will try to guess what the activity is.
CHARADES Team Mental may ask questions and the actor may respond by shaking or nodding his/her head. The actor has three minutes for Team Mental to try to guess the correct answer
CHARADES If Team Mental guesses correctly, they win a point. The game repeats with Team Mental selecting an activity and Team Physical acting it.
CHARADES Continue playing until everyone has had the opportunity to be the actor. Add up the team points
SHARPEN THE SAW Each student will write one goal in each area to create a balanced program to Sharpen the Saw
SHARPEN THE SAW Physical Walk two miles three times a week Social Emotional Spend time talking with a friend you haven’t seen for a while Mental Read one book this marking period Spiritual Attend a worship service
