THE REFUSAL SKILLS Ask questions: “Why would I want to smoke?” Name the trouble: “Smoking pot is illegal.” “Smoking will ruin my breath.” State the consequences: “I could get arrested if I’m caught.” “Someone might take advantage of me.” Suggest an alternative: “I’d rather play basketball.” “Hey, why don’t we go see a movie.” Take off: “Sorry, everyone. But I’m out of here.”
