5 NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only
Storage Manager Dashboard A dashboard designed for Managers and Business Analysts for application capacity planning and identifying cost saving opportunities NEW Contents Storage summary level information for used vs. allocated capacity, connected vs. total switch ports, FC bandwidth and Storage capacity trends by tier Storage traffic trend for yesterday, last 7 days and last 6 months Top 10 demanding applications Daily storage performance by tier Orphaned capacity by tier Specific emphasis was placed on facilitating the needs of Management and Business analysts with the addition of the Storage Management Dashboard. A single dashboard that allows the rapid visualization of current and future issues in the storage infrastructure, from a single page that can be viewed on a web browser, on a laptop, desktop, or mobile device. This single page uses a color scheme that enables colorblind users to understand the data and the page can also be printed on a black and white printer and still convey the information. The information is structured on the page so that the most commonly required components are displayed in the top and left of the screen and the least frequently required information is in the bottom right corner. The information is refreshed daily by the OnCommand Insight tools and stored within a data warehouse. The OnCommand Insight collected data is also augmented with information that is configurable by the user to give context and allow comparisons. The dashboard is broken into seven widgets each containing contextual information on certain aspects of the storage environment: Requirements: OnCommand Insight Discover, Perform and Plan Modules Configurable SLA’s via Report Studio Data refreshed daily 3:00 AM. * ETL recommended once per day NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only

6 Storage Manager Dashboard examined
Total, Used & allocated 12 Month trended capacity (PB). Total, Used, Targeted & Forecasted Capacity (PB) Connected vs. Total switch ports 12 month trended connected ports. Total, Used, Targeted & Forecasted ports usage(K) Last 5 weeks Connected FC utilization %. Actual, Low, Mid, high port utilization % graph Tier used capacity 12 month trend (PB) Total, Used, Targeted , Forecasted Tier capacity (PB) by Tier Tier capacity number of months till full Summary Pane The top “Summary” widget details the capacity of storage, the switch ports and how they trend over time for the last 12 months. It also plots how the current state is in terms of capacity, how OnCommand Insight predicts it will be and gives a context by allowing the entry of a target. This allows an end user to track their usage and compare and contrast to where the system thinks they will be and where they want to be. For example the user could configure the system to show the target and forecast for the end of the financial year so they can track how they are growing capacity compared with the forecast, this enables them to adjust their trajectories and budget allocation. The other information displayed in this first pane is the Fibre Channel (FC) Bandwidth Utilization. There is no target for this data set however there are acceptable ranges. The graph displays the actual utilization compared against these ranges. There is a range for low utilization, mid utilization and high utilization. Storage Tiers Capacity  The bottom pane displays Storage Tiers Capacity. The concept is the same as described for the prior Summary widget. The widget is configurable to display however many tiers is required. The capacity usage is shown of the last 12 months, a value is given alongside a graph that represents the actual usage, the usage forecast by OnCommand Insight and a target. There is then a histogram showing the total capacity. This allows for an understanding of how the much of a share of the environment is distributed amongst the tiers. There is also a histogram that shows the number of months till that particular tier is full. This works similar to a fuel gauge, the less capacity the smaller the bar displayed.   Tiering must be done at the SP or aggregate level NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only

7 Storage Manager Dashboard examined
Traffic (TB) for previous day (black). Daily mean for last 7 days (dark grey) Daily mean Last 6 months (light grey) Greater than > 6 months to full Data Centers and associated tiers Color coded capacity forecast indicators Less than < 3 months to full Between 3 to 6 months to full Daily Storage Traffic The top widget displayed is a Daily Storage Traffic chart. It displays 3 lines that allow the comparison and contrasting of the previous days traffic, the black line, to the last 7 days daily mean the dark grey line, and then to the light grey line which is the daily mean for the last 6 months. This allows the user to visualize any abnormalities in the way the infrastructure has been performing, as it gives information, which would highlight both cyclical (last 7 days) and seasonal variations (last 6 months). Data Centers time to Full The bottom widget, Data Centers time to Full, is designed to give the user an easy to read view into how much capacity is left in each data center for each tier of storage. The darker the blue color the less space there is. The lighter the color the less concern there should be. The darkest blue is less than 3 months, lighter blue is 3-6 months and the very pale blue is greater than 6 months. Tiering must be done at the SP or aggregate level NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only

8 Storage Manager Dashboard examined
Top 10 storage consumers 12 month used capacity (TB) trend by consumer Current used capacity (TB) Stacked consumer capacity proportion (TB) Last day response time (ms) Response time 25% and 75% percentiles Peak average response time (ms) Median response time (ms) Storage Tiers daily performance Lowest , peak , Median response times (7 days) 25 & 75 % percentile latency (7 days) Service level start, End . Top 10 Applications The top widget is the Top 10 Consumers (Physical Hosts only), shown in the example as Top 10 Applications . The concept is to allow a user to understand where the issues with the consumers of storage are. The widget lists out the consumers in order of greatest capacity, it displays how much capacity they have used over the last 12 months, shows the current amount, and then a histogram of the share of the infrastructure. The widget to the right is a response time chart. This shows a box whisker graph, which shows the previous days minimum response time, the 1st quartile, the 3rd quartile, the maximum response time and the white line being the median. This allows the user to visualize what the range of user experience was for the previous day. There is also a grey block that the box whisker is overlaid on this is a crucial component as this block represents an acceptable service level range. This allows the user to see if the consumers will be experiencing acceptable or more importantly unacceptable response times. If the box whisker graph completely resides to the far left of the acceptable range this could suggest the consumer is on storage that is delivering more performance than required and there could be an opportunity to move the consumer to a different type of storage. Storage Tiers Daily Performance  The bottom widget Storage Tiers Daily Performance shows a summary of the tiers previous days performance in the box whisker format for response time and throughput. These box whiskers are overlaid on top of the acceptable service range for that tier. This allows the user to see if there is opportunity to consolidate tiers, realign workloads delivered from those tiers or highlights issues with particular tiers. Tiering must be done at the SP or aggregate level, flex vol or volume NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only NetApp Proprietary – Limited Use Only

9 Storage Manager Dashboard examined
Orphaned Capacity Orphaned capacity by tier (TB) Actual orphaned capacity Orphaned Capacity The last widget is Orphaned Capacity (Top). There are two visualizations in this widget. The first is the horizontal stacked bar. The grey colors here are predefined and show the acceptable 25 & 75 % percentile ranges. The darker the grey the more unacceptable the situation is. The actual situation is shown with the narrow bronze bar that shows the actual capacity that is orphaned. The second visualization is the orphaned capacity detailed by tier of storage. This allows the user to understand which categories need to be investigated for finding savings. An important consideration in this widget is the actual definition of orphaned storage. The first category is storage orphaned by configuration, this means there is storage allocated to a host but the configuration has not been done properly and the host cannot access the storage. Mapped but not masked, masked but not mapped, Mapped and masked but not zoned properly. The second category is orphaned by performance, this is storage that is correctly configured to be accessed by a host but there has zero “0” storage traffic over the entire time the assets has been monitored in OnCommand Insight. Orphaned Capacity is today calculated by both configuration and performance What is configuration? Mapped but not Masked, Masked but not Mapped, Mapped and Masked but not Zoned. What performance? – If the Total IOPS over the last two weeks is 0, then those volumes are considered “Orphaned” Can I exclude storage from orphaned capacity calculations? Yes, Let’s say OCI shows (due to discovery or some other issues) some volumes as Orphaned and customer knows they are not orphaned in that case, users can exclude the resource from Orphaned Capacity widget How to exclude storage from orphaned capacity calculations? Users need to annotate ‘Orphan Exclude’ against either at Storage level, Volume or Storage Pool then the widget will ignore them from Orphaned Capacity calculation.
