Assumptions N fully configured RF carriers –E-MBS services might also be deployed together with unicast services in these carriers. M partially configured RF carriers –Including one or more E-MBS dedicated carrier. Unicast EMBS EMBS dedicated Fully Configured RF CarriersPartially Configured RF Carriers F1 FN P1 PM … … UnicastEMBS P2

Scenario 1 N = 1 (unicast), M =1 (E-MBS) –Idle mode AMSs care about two things Paging Subscribed E-MBS services (mobile TV, music, etc.) –If F1 is selected as the carrier for paging Carrier switching AMSs have to switch back to F1 periodically to checking paging messages. –Switching overhead –Interrupt of receiving E-MBS services.

Scenario 2 N = 3, Frequency Reuse Factor = 1/3. F3 F1 F2 F1 F3 F1 F2 F3 F2 F1 F2 F3 F2 F1 F2 F3 F2 F1 P1 Fully configured carriersPartially configured carriers (E-MBS dedicated)

Scenario 2 If any combination of F1~F3 are selected as the carriers for paging. –For a certain fully configured carrier (e.g. F2), the paging signals are not as good as the E-MBS dedicated carrier. F2 P1

Scenario 3 E-MBS is deployed in both dedicated and mixed carrier. –Assuming F1 and P1 are unicast only carriers, F2 and P2 are mixed unicast and E-MBS carriers, P3 is dedicated E- MBS carrier. –Selecting P3 as the paging carrier does not bring extra complexity/overhead compared with selecting other carriers. Unicast EMBS EMBS dedicated Fully Configured RF CarriersPartially Configured RF Carriers F1 F2 P1 P3 UnicastEMBS P2

Conclusions Dedicated E-MBS carrier is the right carrier to transmit paging in multi-carrier scenario.

Text Proposal 19.4.9.2 Idle Mode (in the Multicarrier Subclause) –Original: During paging listening interval, AMS monitors paging notification on a fully configured carrier. The procedure for paging is the same as defined for single carrier. The selection of the carrier for paging is FFS. When paged, the AMS can perform network re-entry procedure with the paged carrier. –Modified: During paging listening interval, AMS monitors paging notification on a fully configured carrier. The procedure for paging is the same as defined for single carrier. The selection of the carrier for paging is FFS. When paged, the AMS can perform network re-entry procedure with the paged carrier. For AMS subscribing E-MBS services, the paging notification can be transmitted as an E-MBS service.
