Lesson ObjectiveLearning Outcomes To take on the role of one of the winning countries in WWI and negotiate a treaty that best suits that countries interests To start to understand the consequences of WWI and the TOV – can WWII be traced to the decision made at Versailles To assess your own performance as Effective Participators and Team Learners You will have negotiated a Treaty to end WWI You will have negotiated a Treaty to end WWI that is most favourable to your country You will have identified potential causes for future conflict You will have assessed your own performance as Effective Participators and Team Learners Extension – Did the end of World War One contribute to the cause of World War 2?

6 In your last lesson you looked at how the map of Europe was redrawn by the winners of WWI in an attempt to prevent future conflict. In this lesson you will look at how the winning countries each wanted different outcome from the Treaty of Versailles. You will take on the role of either France, The United Kingdom or The United States of America and attempt to negotiate a treaty most favourable to your countries interests.

7 Watch the following clip and answer the following questions: Q1. What is happening in the film? Q2. Who are the apparent victims of the Treaty? Q3. Are they likely to achieve their aims?

8 In a nutshell the winners sit down and decide who takes what and how the enemy should be punished. This normally consists of nicking their land. Watch this clip and tell me the following: What is happening in the film? Who are the apparent victims of the Treaty? Are they likely to achieve their aims?

9 You will be allowed five minutes in your countries to plan your strategy for the negotiations You will score points for negotiating terms that are nearest to your countries aims You will loose points for failing to achieve your aims You will need to compromise on some issues and be forceful on others Once decisions are made, they must be logged on your decision sheet
