STORRE: Stirling Online Research Repository The University’s Open Access Institutional Repository For making copies of Research Outputs of University staff freely available on the web – Green OA ◦ http://storre.stir.ac.uk/ http://storre.stir.ac.uk/ Aim : ◦ Promote University of Stirling research ◦ Make our research more widely and easily available Publication record in STORRE includes: ◦ Persistent URL (Handle), Full Citation, DOI (link), Other link(s) to Publisher version, Licence ◦ Link to Full Text/Request a copy University Policy requires all Journal Articles to be submitted to repository after acceptance for publication
4
Stirling’s new Research Management System ◦ Web based system for Managing and Recording Research Activities and Outputs of University’s Research Staff ◦ Supports entire research life-cycle ◦ Links (different types of) data together ◦ Data used to generate CVs, populate RMS Public Web pages and Internal/Exporting Reporting Accessed via the Portal ◦ “Working at Stirling” and “Research” tabs ◦ Public Web: http://rms.stir.ac.uk/http://rms.stir.ac.uk/ Pre-populated with a range of legacy data ◦ Individual Researchers are responsible for ensuring all their information is complete and accurate RMS and STORRE are tightly integrated ◦ RMS is now primary place for Publication data entry and management
5
Major function of RMS is a Publication Database ◦ Bibliographic data for all Publications by Stirling’s Researchers ◦ Publication Records have fields to indicate: If article has been published in Gold OA Journal or OA in a Hybrid Journal Amount paid in OA charges And link to Publisher (OA) version Via DOI and explicit URL
6
Full-text of Author’s final version post refereeing can be attached to RMS record for export STORRE
7
Library staff validate and supplement bibliographic metadata If full text attached for Green OA via STORRE, Repository Librarian will: ◦ Check Publisher’s OA policy via SHERPA Romeo: http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/ Green OA permitted, version, rights statements, publisher links, embargo requirements... ◦ Set embargo dates in RMS Permanent embargo used where Publisher Policy does not allow Green OA
8
Green OA Publications automatically exported from RMS to STORRE on a nightly basis Embargoes handled automatically in STORRE Bibliographic record freely available but no direct link to Full Text file “Request a copy” facilitates end user access to Full Text during embargo (permitted under “Fair dealing” copyright exemption) Full text automatically becomes freely available at end of embargo period
9
RMS Public Web ◦ RMS Public Web pages provide general access to all (public) information on the University’s: Researchers, Projects, Publications, Research Areas, Organisational Units ◦ Publication information on Public Web includes: Links to Green OA version in STORRE Links to Publisher version May or may not be Gold OA STORRE ◦ STORRE content indexed in: Google/Google Scholar Cross repository search services (via OAI-PMH)
10
RMS data will be used to report on Open Access (both Green and Gold) ◦ Including reporting on Policy Compliance University Policy HEFCE/REF... RMS has ability for you to link Publications to Contracts ◦ Will facilitate external reporting Research Outcomes RCUK (and other Funders with OA policies) Therefore important to ensure: ◦ All Publications [and Gold OA information] in RMS ◦ Full text attached for deposit in STORRE ◦ Publications linked to Contracts
11
Once a Publication’s metadata has been validated by Library staff, Researcher can no longer edit record in RMS ◦ To add Open Access information or attach full-text, use Request Change option on Publication’s Preview screen: ◦ Or email: rmshelp@stir.ac.ukrmshelp@stir.ac.uk Publications can be related to your Contracts at any stage ◦ Via Contract’s“Related Activites” tab
12
Ensure all publication information in RMS ◦ Link Publications to Contracts Green OA! ◦ Attach full text of “Author’s final version post refereeing” to Publication record in RMS for deposit in STORRE ◦ OA Job done! Subject to Publisher Policies and possibly Licensing issues Gold OA? ◦ Add details to Publication record in RMS
