LLWR Integrated Transport Service LLWR Integrated Intermodal Transport Service was introduced on 1st April 2012, new system introduces packaging and transport services under one process. Transport Service is phase 1 of a logistics joint venture between Direct Rail Services and the Low Level Waste Repository
Why DRS? DRS have experience in transporting class 7 cargo (spent fuel) DRS have experienced in transporting general containerised freight using multi-modal transfers (road and sea) DRS operate rail sidings and have the ability to open up new rail sidings for this service DRS have the ability to utilise unused rail capacity routes (from reserved spent fuel paths) Transport (road/rail/sea) Service Execution will be managed from the DRS Kingmoor offices, 100% resource support provided LLWR

The new LLWR/DRS integrated transport and logistics service will ; Cost effective intermodal transport (shipment pricing) service Includes a number of support services Includes 5 x carrier companies on the DRS carrier framework contract, allowing access to an almost infinite amount of equipment Offers a guaranteed 9am - 4pm 5 days/week manned service to deal with any queries on logistics requirements (routing, lifting, packaging) Include an option to provide an on site transport service (shunting) pricing based on day rate Includes option to longer term hire equipment (trailers etc) – pricing based on a simple day rate LLWR Transport Service - Benefits 1
The new LLWR/DRS integrated transport and logistics service will ; Optimise rail use by using unused rail capacity routes Increase logistics co-ordination across all LLWR customers and carriers reducing empty miles Aligns with NDA Transport and Logistics Strategy/National LLW Strategy (3 out of the 6 principles relate to optimising rail) Demonstrate increased safety and security by increased use of rail Offer measurable environmental benefits, through carbon emission savings by using rail mode (carbon graph) Provide transport units and associated equipment data sheets (dimensions, ratings) to assist in planning transports and preparing Waste Loading Plans for safe compliant transports LLWR Transport Service - Benefits 2
Operational Experience – Bradwell trial (using road and rail) transporting LLW Dungeness trial (using rail) transporting LLW Bradwell to Studsvik (using road) transporting Treatable LLW Studsvik to Bradwell (using road) transporting empties Bradwell to SL Rail Hub (using road) transporting LLW Bootle containers to Studsvik Sweden (by road and sea) empties Etc………………….
Next Steps – now to 01/04/2013 Sellafield to LLWR Rail link integration Web based Integrated logistics management system incorporating container satellite tracking implementation…………..role out 2012/13
