2 2 RSRL Waste & Nuclear Material Transfers Key Objective To gain security benefits by transferring Waste and Nuclear Material from Harwell, making use of facilities across the NDA estate in line with Strategy 2. Scope The permanent removal of all identified material (Dragon, LEU, CHILW &CLDs).

11 RSRL Considering ILW Storage Options Interim storage of ILW needed until geological disposal facility available –Geological disposal not available until after 2040 –Maximises release of Harwell site to campus development RSRL considering options for Harwell, Winfrith and Culham ILW to achieve benefits including... –Release of land for new uses –Avoid unnecessary construction –Redirect construction and operations costs to decommissioning activities Proposals will be based on Best Available Techniques assessments
