2 Direct Object Pronouns
A direct object is the person or thing receiving the action of the verb Ils achètent le gâteau. What are they buying? Cake

Direct objects can be nouns or pronouns. To avoid repetition, direct objects can be replaced by direct object pronouns. me me te you (sing. fam.) le/la him,her,it Je regarde la télé. Je la regarde. nous us vous you(pl., formal) les them J’invite les amis chez moi. Je les invite chez moi.

4 Direct Object Pronouns in the Present Tense
In the present tense, place the direct object pronoun before the conjugated verb. Je vous invite tous chez moi. Tu nous invites tous? C’est très gentil! If there is an infinitive, place the direct object prounoun before the infinitive. Ils vont regarder le défilé? Oui, ils vont le regarder.

5 Direct object pronouns before a vowel
Me, te, le and la change to m’, t’, and l’ before a vowel sound. Ma mère m’envoie une carte d’anniversaire?

6 Indirect Object Pronouns
an indirect object is the person who benefits from the action of the verb. in french, the indirect object is almost always preceded by À, and is often used with verbs of giving and receiving (donner, offrir, envoyer) and of communicating (parler, téléphoner, dire.)

Indirect object pronouns are used to avoid repetition. Place the indirect object pronoun before the conjugated verb or infinitive. me (m’) to/for me te (t’) to/for you lui to/for him, her Tu pourrais lui offrir un cd. nous to/for us vous to/for you leur to/for them Alors, je vous envoie une invitation à ma fête.

8 Double Object Pronouns
If you have a sentence with both direct and indirect object pronouns, place the pronouns in the order presented in the chart below. me le te l’ lui nous la leur vous les

9 Double Object Pronouns
J’envoie cette carte à mon ami. Je l’envoie à mon ami. I’m sending it to my friend. Je lui envoie cette carte. I’m sending him this card. Je la lui envoie. I’m sending it to him. Je te l’envoie aussi. I’m sending it to you too.
