2 Nanotechnology & Insulation Materials
EeB.NMP New nanotechnology based high performance insulation systems for energy efficiency Rationale Buildings in Europe 40% Energy Demand 36% CO2 Emissions “Energy Performance” of an average European building is poor. The majority of energy in a building is spent to satisfy heating and cooling demands Nanotechnology & Insulation Materials Insulating materials keep the temperature constant in an enclosed space such as a house, either warmer or colder than the surroundings. According to ECOFYS the addition of thermal insulation to existing buildings in Europe could decrease current building energy costs and carbon dioxide emissions by some 42% or 350 million tonnes of CO2 emissions Nanotechnology offers high potential for enhanced insulation 2
