2 Getting Started in PowerPoint
Open up the program File to new Options for your presentation style. Blank presentation Design template Wizard Existing presentation We will choose the Blank presentation

3 Adding a slide Choose your slide.
Determine what type of slide you wish to use. Text Layout, Content layout, or Text and Content layout. We will use the Blank Slide. Either double click on slide or select arrow on the side of icon. To add a new slide, select insert and scroll down to new slide.

4 Adding Text Select the blue angled A.
This will open up the Word Art gallery. Choose the style that you will use for your text, then double click on it. Select your font, style, and size of text. Delete the words type text here and replace it with your own text. Select ok and your text will appear on the screen.

5 Editing Text Select tabs to rotate and enlarge text. Word Art toolbar:
Edit text Format word art styles Change font colors. Select the paint bucket. Scroll down to fill effects. Select colors.

6 Adding Clip Art Select Insert Scroll down to picture.
Then select clip art. Under search for type in the name. The other option is to select the Clip Art icon.

7 Adding a Colored Background
Select format in the pull down menu. Scroll down to background. Select blue arrow pointing down. Drag down to fill effects. Choose your background. Gradient Make one, two, or preset colors Change colors using the V arrows Select Shading styles and Variants Click ok to add a colored background.

8 Adding a picture as a background
Follow procedure for a colored background. Select picture tab. Click on select picture icon. Find the picture you want. Either double click or select insert. Select ok. Select apply. If you select apply to all it will add the background to all your slides.

9 Downloading image from the Internet
Collapse your power point presentation. Open up the internet. Find your picture and right click on it. Then scroll down to one of the following. Copy Save picture as Save document in picture folder. Paste into presentation. Use a background from picture folder.

10 Animation To add animation to an object select Slide Show and scroll down to Custom Animation. Select Add effect on the right side of screen. Entrance - how the words or objects enter Emphasis - style of words and objects Exit – how the words or objects exit Motion path – Direction of the effect.

11 Animation Continued After you add the effect, you can adjust start and speed. Adjust the order of your animation by selecting the animation in preview box and selecting the up or down arrow. Select play and preview your animations.

12 Sorting Slides Select view and scroll down to slide sorter.
This will put all your slides on one page. Select and drag your slides in the order you wish them to be in. The other method is to select the slide tab. Drag the slides up and down to the correct position.

13 Transitions Select Slide Show and scroll down to Slide Transitions.
Select your transition. Adjust speed and sound. Select how you wish to advance slide. The check mark will be beside the on mouse click. Change to automatically after. Change the time by either selecting the arrow up or down. If you wish to have all of your times be the same, select Apply to all slides.

14 Viewing your show. Select Slide show then scroll down to View show.
Now kick back and enjoy your presentation.

15 Adding music Select Insert Scroll down to movies and sounds.
Then select play audio track. Choose the Start at Track. Choose the End at Track. If you wish to keep repeating the Track, select Loop until stopped. Other options Hide sound icon while slide show plays. Check volume by selecting microphone.

16 Adding music Select ok This will put a sound icon onto your presentation. Double click on the sound icon and see if you hear the track you wanted. If it is the correct track move on. If it isn’t, delete the icon, and pick a new song. Select the sound icon. Do this by clicking once on the icon. Select Slide Show in your pull down menu?

17 Adding music Select Slide Show in your pull down menu.
Scroll down to custom animation. Then right click on the media button under custom animation. Select effects options, then under stop, play clip. Select after and type in a number greater than your last slide. You may need to reorder your show by selecting the up arrow.

18 Adding Voices Select Insert Scroll down to movies and sounds.
Then select Record Sound. Type in the name of your sound. Select Record. Speak into your microphone. Hit stop when finished. You will get an icon like a megaphone. To animate into your presentation, follow the same steps you did with the music.

19 Adding a movie clip Select Insert Scroll down to movies and sounds.
Then select play audio track. Select movie from file.

20 Misc. To add toolbars To change the position of a slide.
Select View scroll down to toolbars To change the position of a slide. Select View scroll down to Slide Sorter. Drag slides to position. This handout was designed by the presenters. You have permission to reproduce any, or all of this handout.
