2. Where They Live Were located in southeast Red River Valley. Variety of landforms covered Caddo territory. There were also swamplands and bayous. Had rolling hills, rushing rivers, and lush forests.

3. Homes Caddo homes were about 15 feet high. Caddo homes were 20 to 50 feet across the middle. The Caddo slept on beds raised off the ground.

4. Family Life The men prepared the fields for planting. They also provided meat for their clans. Caddo worked together to feed and protect each other.

5. Clothing Men and women wore robes in the winter to keep warm. The Caddo moccasins on their feet. The men wore breechcloths, fringed shirts, and leggings. The women wore woven-grass breechcloths under their dresses.

6. Foods The Caddo were hunters, fishers, and gatherers. They grew corn, beans, squashes, pumpkins, gourds, melons, tobacco, and sunflowers. The Caddo made breads, soups, and stews with corn. They fished for catfish, perch, bass, crappie, and sunfish.

7. Society Caddo society was matrilineal. Clans were named after animals to provide a ranking among them. A high priest called a xinesi served all the villages. Every village also had a group of elders called canahas.

8. Crafts The Caddo are known for their beautiful pottery. Sometimes, women made clay figures of animals and humans. The women painted some pots to represent animals such as birds, frogs, and dogs. They made other pots with hollow walls.
