2. Founding UConn was founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School. It was named after Charles and Augustus Storrs, two brothers who donated the land for the school as well as initial funding. In 1939, the school became the University of Connecticut.

6. Mascot The mascot of the University of Connecticut is a Husky named Jonathan. All UConn huskies are named Jonathan, in honor of Jonathan Trumbull, the last colonial and first state Governor of Connecticut. There are two versions of Jonathan, the costumed version and the canine version.

10. UConn Athletics UConn is a NCAA Division 1 school. Uconn is also a member of the Big East Athletic Conference.

11. Connecticut Basketball UConn has one of the best basketball programs in the country. The Men have won three national championships in 1999, 2004, and most recently in 2011. While in Women’s basketball, they have won national championships in 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, and most recently in 2010.
