8 Zulu War Around 1816, a Zulu chief named Shaka Zulu used highly disciplined warriors to create a military organization and powerful nation in South Africa. This was a successful attempt to fight against the control of the Boers (descendants of original Dutch settlers) in this region. The Zulu fought many wars against the Boers and eventually a limited peace was struck. The Boers and Zulu retained their independent territories. In the late 1880’s, the British became involved in the conflicts, and the Zulu were defeated. But not before they had won several major battles against the British.warriorsBritishthey had won the British

9 Sepoy Rebellion Also known as the Great Rebellion or the First War for Independence; the Sepoy Rebellion was a revolt against British rule in India that lasted from 1857 to 1859. The British East India Company was given power by the British government to control India’s political and military affairs. They hired Indian soldiers, called Sepoys, to protect their business in India. In 1857, the Sepoys led a revolt against the British. The major cause of the revolt was actually a new type of British weapon. In order to use this new rifle, soldiers had to bite off the end of a greased tube. The grease contained the fat of cows and pigs. This lead to a religious uprising because many of the Sepoys were Hindus and others were Muslims. The cow is sacred to the Hindus and the Muslims believe that pigs are unclean. The rebellion spread quickly. Both sides were cruel to each other. The Sepoys outnumbered the British, but they were poorly organized, As a result of the war, the British government took power away from the East India Company and decided to rule the country directly.Sepoy Rebellion SepoysThe rebellion spread quickly

12 Boxer Rebellion China was a very important nation to imperialist countries. It had a lot of raw materials and a large population that could buy manufactured goods. Many Chinese disliked the way they were treated by Europeans. They especially hated some of the social changes, such as the spread of Christianity. In the early 1900’s a secret group of warriors called the Boxers began to attack Europeans and Chinese Christians. The Chinese government, which was led by Manchus, supported the Boxers. They hoped the Boxers would get rid of the foreign power. However, European soldiers crushed the Boxers. The Manchu government became weaker. This unsuccessful war was known as the Boxer Rebellion.BoxersChinese ChristiansEuropean soldiers crushed the Boxers

13 Question Explain the role religion in the Sepoy Rebellion. Answer: The major cause of the revolt was actually a new type of British weapon.
