2 What is a participle? A verb form that can be used as an adjective. 2 types: 1. Present Participle 2. Past Participle

3 Present Participle End in –ing Examples Mr. Patterson rescued three people from a burning building. Chasing the cat, the dog ran down the street.

4 Past Participle End in –d or –ed Some participles are formed irregularly. Examples: Well trained, the soldier successfully carried out her mission. Singing cheerfully, the birds perched among the branches of the trees.

5 Participle Phrase Consist of a participle and its modifiers and complements. The entire phrase acts as an adjective. Example: Stretching slowly, the cat jumped down from the windowsill. The tornado predicted by the meteorologist did not hit our area.

6 Skit Directions Groups of 3-4 (teacher assigned) Have to write out a 2 minute skit Has to contain at least 3 participles (past or present) and 3 infinitives. The skit will be performed Monday in class.
