1 Informations Pratiques Asseyez-vous à vos tables SVP!!

2 Materials O Textbooks and workbooks from TBC O School supplies: Check the homepage of the teacher website: O Computers: If you need to borrow a Chrome Book from the school, go to the TBC today or tomorrow after school.

3 How do I enter class? O Enter calmly, perfect as you are O Greet your teacher and classmates O Join the community circle O Take a look at our objectives and agenda O Read/Follow directions on the board when applicable

4 What do I do at the beginning of class? O Honor the community with your silence O Wait patiently for MINDFULNESS TIME!!!

5 What is “tardy” and what should I do when I am? O In this class, you are tardy when you are not seated when the bell rings. O When you are tardy, write down the date, your name and the time you arrived in the “Journal du retard.”

6 What do I do when I return from an absence? O Check the website while you are away and do what you can to keep up with the course work. O Check with classmates (Exchange phone numbers/email addresses with your home table) and if you still need help, check with me (Text me @ 650-863- 7232)

7 How will homework be checked? O Each day, when you get back to your home table, your teacher will walk around and check everybody’s homework for completion and quality. O Quality means that you did all that was required/ Not correct answers O You will receive a monthly homework grade that will be part of your work habit grade (10% of your total grade) N.B: I will explain the homework process more in details next week. Don’t worry about it for now!

8 What if I need to use the restroom? O Do your best to do so before or after class O If you have to go, wait until it is least disruptive O After the first 10 minutes/ Before the last 10 minutes of class O Preferably during seat/individual work time O You do not have to ask permission; just walk out quietly O On block days, there will be a 5 minute break for that purpose half-way through the class.

9 What can I eat and drink in this classroom? O You may drink clear water O Unless you were given a special permission, you may not drink or eat anything (except water) O If you absolutely need to eat, let me know and step out O If you have special circumstances and must eat, I already know or you need to let me know. WHY? O This room is carpeted and stains/spills are hard to clean up. O It can be distracting.

10 What happens at the end of class? O Please, make sure you understand your homework assignment. O You might be asked to help with the upkeep of your table/the classroom O Your teacher will often review what you have learned and connect it to what you will learn soon. O Wait to be prompted before you start to put your things away. Kindly remind your teacher about the time if necessary

11 What skills will I develop this year? Interpretive Listening : Demonstrate understanding of the general meaning, key ideas, and details from a variety of audio/video sources Interpretive Reading : Demonstrate understanding of the general meaning, key ideas, and details from a variety of printed and visual sources Interpersonal Writing (Reading/Writing) : Engage efficiently in the written exchange of information, ideas, feelings and opinions using writing tools Presentational Writing : Present to an audience of readers efficiently/ Plan and produce a variety of written products using writing tools Interpersonal Speaking (Listening/Speaking) : Engage efficiently in oral conversations both in small and large groups Presentational Speaking : Efficiently present various products about familiar topics to an audience of listeners using a variety of tools Culture (embedded in all the above modalities): Demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of cultural products, practices and perspectives of the target cultures

12 How will my proficiency be assessed? Interpretive Listening –15% Interpersonal Speaking (Listening/Speaking) – 15% Presentational Speaking- 15 % Interpretive Reading – 15 % Interpersonal Writing (Reading/Writing)- 15% Presentational Writing -15 % Work habits- 10%

13 How will my work be graded? O For each category, you will complete about 3-4 assessments per semester. O For each assignment, you will receive a letter grade O At the end of semester, you will receive an overall grade for each category that will represent your skill level at the end of the semester. It will NOT be an average of all your assessment scores but rather a representation of what you are able to do most of the time and more importantly at the end of the semester.

14 How will my proficiency be assessed? A (Advanced): 90-100% B (Proficient): 80-89.99% C (Basic): 70-79.99% D (Developing): 60-69.99% F (Beginning): 50-59.99%

15 Late work, make up work and retakes O You may turn in late homework within 5 class days of the due date for half credit O You may make up assessments 5 school days upon your return after an absence O You may retake a writing/speaking assignment after demonstrating that you have practiced for it and within 5 class days of your teacher returning it to you. O Listening and reading assessments cannot be retaken. However, they will be more frequent than speaking/writing assessments.

O What do you need to feel that way? You may want to think of times when you felt or did not feel that way and identify what needs of yours were met or not met.

20 Our needs- Listening deeply 5 minutes? One by one, let your home group know what you need to thrive so that they may be able to honor them to the best of their capacities. Group: LISTEN DEEPLY It is your chance to have your voice heard, get your needs met and know how you can support the members of your home group.

21 Group poster-13 minutes O Create a poster that represents the needs of your home group and your willingness to honor those needs. O This poster is also a request from the community to honor those needs. O Please, make sure every voice is heard, respected and honored
