4. How Strong is the Force in You? Content- –Students will be able to: – Explain the structure and powers of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. –Describe the legislative process in the U.S. Congress –Identify the legislative branch’s role in the system of checks and balances/separation of powers.

5. The U.S. Constitution sets up one government with three branches.

6. Each branch has some power. The Legislative Branch makes the law The Executive Branch enforces the law The Judicial Branch interprets and applies the law

7. No branch has all the powers. The U.S. plan of government is a system of checks and balances or a system with separation of powers.

8. Separation of powers keeps one branch from getting too strong and taking over the government. The three branches must work together.
