2 Points to Note: What are adverbs? Adverbs are the words that tell you how an action is done. e.g. happily, softly, quietly. The children are playing happily. The soldier marched smartly.

3 Prepositions usually occur before a noun before a noun phrase (e.g. at the canteen). They show the position, time, place or direction. Points to Note:

4 We went to school at seven o ’ clock. Mary met her mother at MTR station. The mouse ran from the cat. For examples: It shows the time. (when?) It shows the place. (where?) It shows the direction. (where?)

5 My father went to work in the morning. May was cooking in the kitchen. Tom came home from work at six o ’ clock. Points to Note: It shows the direction. (where?), and the time (when?) It shows the place. (where?) It shows the time. (when?)

7 Where did the elephants play? The elephants playedin the water. water

8 How did the elephants play? The elephants playedin the water happily happily.

11 How did the elephants run? fearfully The elephants ran fearfully from the hunter.
