ESX10-T Electronic Circuit Protectors with Hazardous Area approvals

What Is a Power Supply Overview -Power supplies are essential links in supplying energy to control systems. They are the heart of every control cabinet. -Modern industrial automation applications require safe, efficient, packaged AC/DC power supplies to support DC voltage and current to the control systems used in factory automation and process control. -Power supplies are complimentary products to Weidmuller’s line-up of both active and passive products.  Circuit Breakers  Fuses  Electronic Circuit Protection  Nothing Protecting 24VDC Circuits

Circuit Breaker  May take 5-10 times the rated load to shut down or trip.  Allows power supply to sag and stop supplying power to every circuit.  Typically Over-Sized (80-125V).  Susceptible to Nuisance tripping due to in-rush currents. 201 series thermo-magnetic circuit breaker trip curve….

Fuses  Drastically affected by ambient temperature -Hot Temperatures – lower current needed to open. -Cold Temperatures – higher current needed to open.  No ability to reset  Typically requires 5X the current to open -Switch mode power supplies cannot provide sufficient current. -Voltage level will drop off before the fuse opens. Figure 3: Characteristic output curve of typical switch mode power supply

Electronic Circuit Protection  Will open current path before voltage sag  Isolation of circuit failures  Control Cabinet not affected by one failure  Status and Signal output is available  Visual Indication of failures  Ability for remote reset  Orientation doesn’t matter ESX-10T Trip Curve

Our Solution ESX10-T Series Protectors  Protects 12 VDC and 24VDC Power Applications  Electronic Circuit Breaker -Remote Reset -Remote ON/OFF -N/O or N/C  Manufactured by ETA  Currently no Direct Competition  Solid State Overcurrent Protector  Active Current Limitation (1.3 to 1.8)  Selective Load Protection

Markets/Applications  Markets/Verticals -Oil & gas Industry -Petro-Chemical Industry -Pharmaceutical -Water and Wastewater -Automation Systems Machine Tool & Packaging Machines  Applications -Hazardous Location -Remote Reset Signal -Remote ON/OFF Control Signal -Current Limitation (1.3 to 1.8 times Amps.)

Application

Benefits (ESX10-T Series)  Increased System Uptime  Faster Trouble-Shooting and Problem Solving  One design for North America -UL 1604 Listed (Class 1 Division 2) -CSA Approvals are in process.  Improved Design and Installation -Reduction of “Real Estate” -Decreased commissioning time  Not Affected by temperature  Minimizes “Nuisance-Tripping”  One Trip Curve for all Breakers

The Competition

Competition (ESX10-T Series)  Siemens Sitop Select (Fuse) -Risk of incorrect current rating adjustment -Shuts down when voltage drops below 18V -Mechanical reset necessary after shut down -Have to reset all four channels at once -Complex handling and can loose fuses -Not easy to identify problems -Risk of destruction if fuse is re-inserted without failure remedy. -Only Available as a 4-way module

Competition (ESX10-T Series)  Murrelektronik MICO 4.x (Fuse) -No physical Isolation with disconnection -No real current limitation -Difficult to wire on DIN rail -Remote reset is possible and wired separate -Functions only compatible with MURR Systems -Only a 3-way unit with ratings up to 10A -Extended voltage interruptions lead to shut down -Adjustable current ratings leads to disconnect -Trip behavior depends on cables used

Key Questions  How do you currently power active devices and electronics in your automation control panels?  Do you use switch mode 24VDC power supplies for equipment in your panels and machines?  Are you protecting your critical loads, such as PLCs and Ethernet switches, from, power supply failures? If so, how?  Are you satisfied with the time it takes to identify and troubleshoot power-related failures in your controls panels?  Are you satisfied with the reliability of your DC power sources?
