CNG Bus Sales (Korean Market) In this presentation, I’ll briefly touch basic understandings of the fuel and the system of CNG vehicle. Then I’ll show you Hyundai CNG bus product information, vehicle performance and the reliable safety features of our Hyundai CNG bus. Finally, I’ll cover the economical benefit and sales trend of CNG bus compared to conventional diesel bus.

3 1. The Characteristics of CNG

CNG is mainly composed of Methane gas whereas LPG consists of Butane and Propane gas. And CNG is lighter than air and LPG is heavier than air. The liquefaction temperature of CNG is degrees in Celsius , and usually it is stored as compressed gas state, so well developed gas pipeline infrastructure is required to use CNG as fuel.

When gas leakage occurs, CNG will quickly spread to the air because it is lighter than air but LPG will settle down on the ground, and the combustion point of CNG is much higher than LPG gas. So exposed to fire, CNG will be less likely explosive. In addition to this, CNG is known to less harmful to health compared to LPG.

5 2. System Diagram This is a system diagram of CNG bus operation.

Hyundai CNG bus has an integrated computer system for fuel and engine control for the optimized vehicle performance. This integrated system consists of a computer module called ECM, electronic control module, various sensors and valves in every systems to exchange the information for best driving conditions. When a driver put an electronic accelerator pedal, electric signal is delivered to the ECM (Electronic Control Module). Then, ECM calculates the right time and amount of the fuel supply, which activates air intake system in order to supply the best ratio of fuel and air. The oxygen sensor analyzes the status of exhaust gas and feed back the data to ECM to adjust the fuel and air supply ratio to keep the performance at the optimal level.

As a medium city bus for short distance traveling, we have a 9 meter grade Global 900, and we have Super Aero City bus which is the most popular city transportation bus in Korea, and we also have a low floor version of Super Aero City bus which is allowing the easy access of senior and disabled people. The length is about 9 meter and we use 240 horse-powered engine and the seating capacity is up to 24+1 people excluding standing passengers. As for CNG bombe, you can select 575 liters tanks or 694 liters tanks depend on the traveling distance requirements.

Super Aero City bus is 11 meter grade bus and equipped with 290 horse-powered C6AB engine. For the gas storage bombe, the standard tank size is 813 liters, and 932 liters and 1051 liters of optional tanks are available. The Suspension for Super Aero City bus is the leaf suspension type. Currently, we offer two different seating capacity, 25+1 and 27+1 excluding standing passengers for Korean market. However, the seat arrangement can be changed upon requests.

The floor height is about 525 mm lower than a regular Aero City bus and a ZF automatic transmission is equipped in Aero City low floor as standard and for the smooth riding, wide air suspension is applied. For easier access of disabled people and senior people, Hyundai Super Aero City low floor version features many convenient equipment such as wheel chair access ramp on the rear door and the electronic kneeling system which lowers the entrance about 80 mm down, and inside of the bus, there are two wheel chair locking stations.

Aero Space is equipped with a powerful 310 horse-power engine and it has up to 1064 liters of large CNG bombe enabling long distance service. With air suspension system, the riding feels are very smooth and pleasant.

11 ▣ Exterior View From now, I will give you more on our product information based on the most popular city bus, Super Aero City CNG bus. And this is the exterior view. We have improved the exterior look as well as the body structures for overall product durability and easy maintenance as well as safety compared to diesel version of the same model. And this is the interior view of Aero City bus, we are offering two different seating capacity for the Korean market: 25 plus one and 27 plus one seat layout. There are roomy space for standing passengers. And as for the seats, we can meet your various seat arrangement requests.

13 ▣ Chassis Frame Diesel Bus - Frame : 4 units - Size : 40 x 40 CNG Bus - Frame : 7 units - Size : 50 x 50 - Vertical member, added For the chassis frame, we have reinforced it to increase the durability as well as the safety. Compared with the diesel bus chassis, the number of frame was increased as well as the size of frame itself and vertical member was also added to sustain the weight of CNG tanks.

For the safety of CNG bus, it’s better to inspect CNG cylinders and valves periodically. For the convenience of maintenance, Hyundai CNG bus has side flap doors. With these flap doors, you can check any equipments related to cylinders. For easy maintenance, Side Flap Door Structure is designed

4. Emission and Performance 1. CNG Bus dramatically reduces air pollutants compared to Diesel Vehicle : Nox (50%), HC (70%), PM & SMOKE(100%) 2. Korea 2004 Emission (GAS Engine), satisfied [EURO 3 Level] NOx HC PM SMOKE 50% As you know well, CNG engine is much more environmentally friendly product. Comparing to conventional diesel engine, nitrogen oxide can be reduced by 50%, 70 % of carbonated hydrogen can be reduced and there is almost no particulate matters and smoke produced from the Hyundai CNG engine. 17 ▣ Vehicle Performance ● Improved Noise & Vibration
- Low compression ratio - Reduction of parts ● Improved Drivability and Fuel Consumption - Electronic Controlled Lean Burn engine ● Better Performance due to high power engine - 290 PS ● Excellent Start-ability compared to same grade of Diesel Vehicle - Higher engine torque at low speed range In addition to green technology, Hyundai CNG bus has various advantages in the vehicle performance. Firstly, low compression ratio and reduction of the number of parts help CNG bus reduce noise and vibration. Secondly, powerful electronic lean burn engine can ensure better drivability, fuel consumption and outstanding performance. Lastly, CNG bus shows excellent start-ability compared to other vehicles using the same grade of diesel engine because CNG engine has a higher torque at low speed range than diesel engine.

Safety Features ▣ Hyundai uses all CNG components satisfying ANSI/NGV2 Specs. ■ Flame Test ■ Falling Test We, Hyundai, think safety from the designing stages and use only components satisfying world-level safety standards, such as ANSI and NGV2 specs. This is the test photos of CNG containers and safety valves in the severe condition of flame test and falling test. Left photo shows that in the 700 degrees in Celsius degree flame test, the container was not exploded. As seen in the right photo, at the container falling test, no explosion accident happened. At the 8mm bullet gunfire test, the container was proved safe. As you see, the major components of Hyundai CNG bus were tested under severe condition and proved reliable and safe. In various situations of fire or car accidents, your safety will be secured by the Hyundai CNG bus. Not Exploded in the 8mm bullet gunfire test

20 ▣ Safety of Vehicle System
■ Safety Inspection for overall vehicle system has been passed. - Safety of Hyundai CNG Vehicle system has been inspected and satisfied. - Inspection Institution : Woodward (USA) Besides the components, the overall safety of Hyundai CNG bus has been tested in operational condition and proved and confirmed as safe. Hyundai CNG bus has been inspected for it’s vehicle system safety by the Woodward, a world famous NGV system company and satisfied all the requirements for the vehicle safety in operational condition. And Hyundai CNG bus has also satisfied one of the toughest safety standard in the world, NFPA52 by the US National Fire Protection Association. In addition to this, we are carrying on three steps of gas leakage test for our CNG bus before delivering to customers. ■ Safety Standard of US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA52) has been satisfied ■ 3 Step of Gas Leakage Inspection has been done

21 ▣ Safety Equipment (1) ■ Side impact bar
■ Emergency Fuel Cut-Off Valve when Gas Leaked (Turbulence check function) ■ Space between Safety Valve and the outer side wall : 210 mm In our CNG bus, there are many safety equipment to protect our customers from the various accidents. To keep the CNG tanks and valves more safe in side collision accident, we have installed the side impact bar and placed mm of space between safety valves and outside body panel. Emergency fuel cut-off valve will activate stopping gas supply when gas leakage is detected to reduce the possibility of fire accident.

22 ▣ Safety Equipment (2) ■ When a fire is occurred, the explosion of gas container is prevented : PRD VALVE(①) ■ When Engine is stopped, fuel is cut - Manual Container Valve (②) - Lock Off Valve of high pressure side - Lock Off Valve of low pressure side (In front of Engine : Protection of Engine parts) There are several features to protect CNG system from the emergency fire accidents. One of them is Pressure Relief Device Valve of every gas cylinder. In case of fire accident, the temperature of cylinder inside goes up, then PRD valves are automatically released and exhaust CNG gas through the separate pipe lines to save the system from explosion. And also, when engine is stopped, the system will stop fuel supply.

23 ▣ Safety Equipment (3) ■ Gas exhaust hole on the side
panel when gas leakage ■ Protection cover of the lower part of container We also reinforced the protection cover under the gas cylinders to keep the CNG tank safe. And there is CNG exhaust hole on the side panel for better ventilation in case of any gas leakage for safety purposes.

24 ▣ Safety Equipment (4) ■ Ignition-prevent function during gas charging
There are additional features for safety in our CNG bus. The ignition-prohibited function, a fool-proof system, disables starting engine during gas refilling in order to prevent any possible fire accident. As you see, Hyundai CNG bus featured many tiers of safety measures to prevent any possible accidents from components developing stages to designing and building vehicles. ■ Maintain the Same ground clearance as Diesel Vehicle

Since we have various alternatives in fuel tank capacity to offer, we can meet your different traveling requirements with one time gas filling from 435 kilometers to 560 kilometers. For CNG bus, the safety is very important factor as well as the performance. So we have focused the safety equipment and the easy maintenance structure on our CNG bus, such as PRD valve, ignition prevent function, side impact bar and so on. In addition to safety, our bus has spacious and convenient passenger’s compartment. The interior height is 2,040 mm and the floor height is 850 mm, the door width of front door is 850 mm. And we offer the 11R PR tubeless tires as standard.

The fuel consumption for CNG bus is 2.1 Km per cubic meter and the diesel engine is 2.3 km. The fuel economy of diesel engine is slightly better than CNG engine, but when we consider the fuel price of CNG and diesel, the overall economy of CNG bus is more attractive. Let’s look at the Korean situation for running CNG bus. In Korea, the fuel price of CNG is about US 40 cents per cubic meter and the diesel price 72cents per liter. And the average traveling distance of city transportation bus is about 105 thousands kilometer per year. If we simply calculate the fuel cost differences, every year we can save about 14 thousand US dollars comparing to diesel bus operation fuel cost. In here, I did not mention the invaluable environmental social cost savings thanks to low emission of CNG bus.

27 Appendix #2 : Sales of CNG bus
▣ The Demand for CNG bus is growing, especially in City Bus Segment 1. Hyundai City bus sales and forecast 2. Percentage of CNG Bus in Seoul CNG: 13% In Korea, the first CNG bus was introduced back in the late of 1990’s as for a test driving. However, the actual introduction for CNG bus started from year 2000 with Hyundai began the mass production of Super Aero City CNG bus. And from 2002, the market demand for CNG bus has already outpaced the demand of diesel bus as more than 60% per year. Today in Seoul, about eight-thousand and one hundred city buses are in operation, and among these, 13% of city buses are CNG buses. Considering, the short introduction period of CNG, this is remarkable number. And we are expecting the growth ratio of CNG bus will higher in the future due to our attention to the environment. I believe more and more attention and interest for CNG bus are growing in Singapore, and Hyundai CNG bus has been well proven in it’s safety and performance as well as it’s economy in Korean market.
