2 EMERGENCY EVACUATION During an emergency, it is very important that everyone has a clear understanding of the evacuation plan. In addition, keep in mind these tips.

3 EVACUATION TIPS Adhere to building evacuations immediately. Do not assume it is a false alarm. Remain calm and carefully follow the instructions of emergency personnel. Be familiar with the emergency evacuation plan and exits of the building where you are staying/visiting.

4 EVACUATION TIPS If there is an emergency, move to the closest exit. If flames or smoke are in that exit, proceed to the nearest and safest alternative exits. Only assist others when/if it is safe to do so. Once you have exited the building, move back at least 100 feet from the surrounding area. Follow instructions from emergency personnel on the designated safe place.

5 EVACUATION TIPS Once you have left your room or common space, only return when emergency personnel says it is safe to do so.

6 ASSISTING THOSE WITH DISABILITIES HEARING IMPAIRED PERSONS University employees should hold a sign saying, “EMERGENCY-PLEASE FOLLOW ME!” Lead the individual to the nearest exit to safety.

7 ASSISTING THOSE WITH DISABILITIES MOBILITY IMPAIRED PERSONS In wheel chairs on non-ground level floors, proceed to the nearest enclosed stairwells and wait for the Princess Anne Fire Department or UMES Public Safety to arrive. University employee should stay with the disabled person, if it does not place him/her in additional danger and university employee should meet responding fire fighters to report the location of disabled persons.

8 ASSISTING THOSE WITH DISABILITIES VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS University employee should inform individual of the emergency and lead the individual to nearest exit and safety.
