Detective Holmes asks for the list of guests in the lobbie, to see if the suspect is there (the one who sent the letter). But the suspect isn’t there. The heir wants to go to his (now) mansion. But Holmes suggests him not to go all alone, for his safety. They decide that Watson will be his companion. When they are ready to leave -the Henry’s boot that has weirdly dissappeard-, appears. Doctor Holmes, already in his home, receives two letters: one from Henry Baskerville saying that Barrymore is in the mansion. And the other, is from the attendant boy who hasn’t found any newspaper cut.

CHAPTER VI- The Baskerville’s Mansion Watson is ready to go to the Mansion with Sir Henry and Mortimer by train. This was a good moment to know better each other. The heir says he has never been to the mansion since he was a teenager. At the same time, the driver of the horse wagon says that a prisioner has escaped, and he is still fugitive and he is in the moor. When Henry, Watson and Mortimer arrive at the mansion they meet Barrymore and his wife. After having a look at the place, the old man says to Henry he would like to leave the house when they’ll leave too. He is quitting. Henry Baskerville looks it’s not a nice place at all. At night, when they all go to sleep, Watson hears a scary crying, a woman’s shout.

Chapter VII- The Stapletons of Merripit House Both Henry B. and Watson heard the woman’s shout last night. So they go to ask to Barrymore about what happened last night. But he says there are only two women in the mansion: the cleaning lady –who lives in another part of the house- and his wife. But he assures his wife didn’t make any sound. Watson knows he is lying because he has seen her with swollen eyes. Watson goes to the post office, and in his way back he meets a stranger called Stapleton. He was a naturalist. This man says he is the only one who knows very well the moor, and then, invites Watson to his house and he’ll meet his sister. When they arrive there, Stapleton shows Watson the moor and talks about the Grimpen swamp –which swallows ponies-. He says he can go trought it without any problems. In that moment, his sister appears and talks to Watson –while Stapleton is trying to catch a butterfly- suggesting him to escape from there, that he must go back to London for his own sake. Then she realized he wasn’t Henry Baskerville and apoligizes.

Chapter 9- The light upon the moor The next morning, Watson goes to the room that Barrymore went last night. That place of the house has the best view to the moor. Then, Doctor Watson talks to Henry B. about what to do, and they decide that at night they will go after Barrymore to see what he is doing in there. After the conversation, both of them are going out, and Watson follows Henry, but this one says to the Doctor he has to go alone because he’ll meet Mrs. Stapleton. Watson worries about what could happen to the heir, so he pursues Henry in his date. Doctor Watson watches from distance that seems they are having an arguement. In the same moment, Stapleton interrupted their moment. He carries his sister with him, while Henry lies alone confused. When the friends meet again, Watson tells Henry that he has been watching for his own sake. The same night, this man spies Barrymore, and they don’t see anything. But the next night, Watson and Henry try again, and finally surprise the housekeeper and his wife admits all the truth: His brother is the prisioner in the moor who has escaped from jail. The lady and her husband give him food and drink every night by the signal light of the candles. With this confession, Watson and Henry cannot sit idly. So they go to catch the murderer, but don’t find him. Watson sees a man on a rock, but when he turned after a creepy howl, he wasn’t there anymore.

Chapter 10 – Extract from Watson’s diary Barrymore reproaches to Henry for following his brother. He also says that he won’t do anything because he’s about to leave in a ship to South America. Because of that, the friends decide not to do anythigh about it. Grateful for this, the housekeeper trusts them with a secret that nobody knows about the Sir Charles’s Baskerville death: he had dated a woman, and because of that he was standing at the wicket. There, were the ashes of a letter wrote by a woman that said: “please, as you are a gentleman, burn this letter and be at the wicket at 22pm. Fdo.: L.L”. When Watson finds Mortimer, asks him about the initials, and the Doctor says that is Laura Lyons, the Frankland’s daughter, who has married an artist that abandonned her. Now she has no relation with her father because he’s angry with her because of the marriage. Mortimer, Sir Charles and Stapleton have helped her with the issue.

Chapter 11- The Man on the Tor Watson looks for Laura Lyons to discover why she was going to meet Sir Charles Baskerville the same night he finally died. At the beggining, she denies the meeting. Then, admits it and explains that she needs money for the divorce, and Sir Charles is the one who will lend to her. But another person lend it first. So because of that, she didn’t attend the date. In his way back, Watson finds Frankland. Laura Lyons’s dad knows where the murderer is and shows the detective a telescope throw which he can see the prisioner in the moor. While they are watching, they can see a man there, far, with something in his hand who seems to be watching if someone is seeing him. Watson decides to go after this man. Watson finds a prehistoric house, and surprisingly enough with furniture, something that makes it in conditions to live. The detective finds a paper written in which he is mentioned. The detective is surprised. Someone makes a noise, so he hides and prepares the gun.. When the suspect talks, the voice is familiar…

Chapter 12- Death on the moor Finally, and surprisingly, it’s Holmes’s voice. He’s hiding there, making other people believe he’s in London. This way, Holmes can do research and see things from different angles. Detective H. brings with him a messenger boy called Cartwright. The things he has discover are: 1- That Stapleton and Laura Lyons have already a very close relation. She thinks he’s single and she’s waiting to become his wife. 2- Stapleton and his sister are not really what seem to be. The lady is his wife. 3- Last, Stapleton is the first suspect of murder Sir Charles Baskerville, and wants to kill Henry B. too. Suddenly, the two detectives hear a shout out there, and when they go to see, there is a dead man prone on the floor. Both think is Henry, but when they get closer to him, they realized it’s Selden Barrymore wearing Henry’s clothes. Then, Stapleton appears in that place, and Watson and Holmes say that Selden has broken his neck falling from a rock because of his madness. Detectives say to Sir Henry the same thing they said to Stapleton. They also make Stapleton believe they will go back to London because they fail.

Chapter 13- Fixing the nets When the detectives arrive together at the mansion, Henry looks very happy and says to Holmes that it was time for him to appear and watch the case closer by himself. Henry was about to break his promess of not going alone to anywhere by going to Stapleton’s house. While they are dinning Holmes watckes the paints on the wall in detail and he realized that in Hugo’s Baskerville portrait there is another man that seems to be (and Holmes is pretty sure) Stapleton. Later, he tells Watson about it. So they conclude that Stapleton is a Baskerville. The following day, they lie to Henry about their leaving to London, but they will return. Holmes asks the messenger boy to go to London and send a telegram to Henry saying he has to go to Stapleton’s house by car and return to the mansion on foot. This frightens the heir a little, but he’ll do it anyway. The two detectives interrogate Laura Lyons because they know she hasn’t told all the truth. Now she confesses she knows the suposed brother and sister are married, but Stapleton is trying to get divorced and then marries Laura. Because of that he gave her the money for her divorce and didn’t go to her date with Charles. After his death she is really scared and Stapleton tells her to be quiet about it A new detective called Lastrade appears in the story. He meets Holmes and Watson at the station.

Chapter 14- The hound of the Baskervilles The three detectives arrive at Merripit’s house. They can see Stapleton and Henry drinking coffee and smoking. Stapleton’s wife is absent. Holmes, Watson and Lestrade wait for Henry in a place that, this last one man, cannot see them. Behind Henry, a monstruous hound follows him and spreads fire from it’s mouth. The detectives are paralized. But they cannot wait, and act: Watson and Holmes shoot the beast. It howls, but keeps walking and attacs the heir, so Holmes fires again now five shots and finally kills the hound. Luckily, Sir Henry Baskerville is fine. The men run back to the house to catch Stapleton, but they find his wife bound and abused in a room. Desperately, she says he has escaped to the Swamp Island where he has his dog. Because of the mist, they prefer to go the next morning. When they are in the island they don’t see any footprint. Probably, Stapleton fell in the swamp.

CHAPTER 15- A Retrospection Holmes and Watson make a summary of their last case. The real name of Stapleton was Roger, Rodger’s son, the youngest brother of Charles. He married Beryl García. He had stolen, so then he changed his name to Vandeleur and escaped to the north of Ingland where he was a professor until the school closed, and changed again his name to Stapleton. When noticed that Charles and Henry were heirs before him, he bought a dog because the oldest brother suffered from a heart condition. He also tried to catch him through his wife, but she refuse to do it, so he used Laura. Then, in London, Stapleton tried to kill Henry, covering himself with a beard. But as Holmes was protecting him, Roger went back to the field. His wife was the one who wrote the letter for Henry. The boot which stole from Henry didn’t work to encourage the dog because it was new. The investigation had difficulties because the story of Selden comes into in the middle of the investigation. It was difficult to catch out the criminal. Finally, Henry Baskerville goes on a trip to relax after all the tense days he has lived.
