6 Why international trade?  UKTI’s new strategy, Britain open for Business, is at the heart of the UK Government’s drive to promote growth through trade and investment.  Launched in May 2011, the strategy sets out plans to provide practical support to exporters and inward investors over the next five years.  UKTI is leading a four-pronged, cross government approach to growth: o a focus on high-growth and innovative SMEs o high-value opportunities o high-quality inward investment o key account management offering a seamless, “one-stop” service. 6

7 How we add value 7 Independent customer research and monitoring surveys found that UKTI services generated the following results:  24,400 UK companies in 2010/11 improved their business performance overseas with help from UKTI  £6 billion worth of additional profits attributed by UK companies to UKTI actions in 2010/11  22:1 benefit-to cost ratio. For every £1 UKTI spends, £22 is generated for the UK economy  70% of those using UKTI services report significant benefits to productivity and competitiveness
