2 2 absorbent compress dressings 25 adhesive bandages 1 adhesive cloth tape 5 antibiotic ointment packets 5 antiseptic wipe packets 2 packets of aspirin 1 blanket 1 breathing barrier 1 instant cold compress 2 pair of non-latex gloves 2 hydrocortisone ointment packets Scissors 1 roller bandage 5 sterile gauze pads Oral thermometer 2 triangular bandages Tweezers First aid instruction booklet

3 Cold pack-necessary to aid in reducing swelling of an injured body part.

4 Antiseptic ointment/antiseptic hand cleaner- kills germs on the skin.

5 Used to cover wounds Adhesive Bandages Gauze pads Roller bandage Adhesive tape Triangular Bandages

6 Plastic bags and disposable gloves- protects against infection when exposed to bodily fluids from a victim.

7 Other: A small flashlight and batteries- to provide light in case you are working to assist a victim in the dark. Tweezers- used to remove splinters or other foreign objects from the skin. Blanket- helps keep the body warm and prevents loss of body temperature.

8 You must have CONSENT (PERMISSION) to give first aid. There are 2 types of consent ◦ACTUAL CONSENT ◦IMPLIED CONSENT There are also LAWS that protect people who give first aid in GOOD FAITH.

9 Actual Consent ◦ ORAL or WRITTEN permission from a MENTALLY COMPETENT adult to give first aid. ◦Tell the victim:  WHO YOU ARE  WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO  THE FIRST AID TRAINING YOU HAVE A PARENT or GUARDIAN must give actual consent if the victim is a CHILD or is not mentally competent.

10 Implied Consent ◦Assuming the victim would GRANT PERMISSION to give first aid if he or she was CAPABLE. ◦Given when:  The victim is a MENTALLY COMPETENT adult who is UNCONSCIOUS.  A CHILD or ADULT who is not mentally competent, when no ADULT who can grant actual CONSENT is present.

11 GOOD SAMARITAN LAWS ◦Laws that protect people who give first aid in good faith and without gross negligence or misconduct. ◦CANNOT provide complete LEGAL protection. ◦Anyone giving FIRST AID should be PROPERLY TRAINED and should apply the correct PROCEDURES and SKILLS.

12 UNIVERSAL PRECAUTION: Steps taken to prevent the spread of disease by treating all human blood and bodily fluids as if they contained HIV, HBV, and other pathogens when providing first aid or health care. ◦Follow in ANY SITUATION in which you might have CONTACT with BLOOD and other BODILY FLUIDS.
